Spanish theme in $6 million complex Reno's newest major hotel-casino, the Eldorado opens tonight The Eldorado Hotel will open its doors today at 8:30 p.m. The new structure, located at Fourth and Virginia streets, has been under construction for 10 months and was built at an estimated cost of $6 million. A gold, brown and black color scheme carries out the Spanish theme set by the name of the complex. The Spanish influence is seen throughout the gaming area, lounge, bars, restaurants and convention facilities. FIRST FLOOR The first floor contains a casino area, hotel registration and lobby, two restaurants and two bars.

Included in the casino area are 200 slot machines, a keno game and 10 table games. An entertainment lounge and bar is adjacent to the gaming area where Lisa DiMilo will star as the opening entertainer. Two restaurants are also located on the first floor. A 24-hour coffee shop with a seating capacity of 150 will open at 11 p.m. A dinner house which seats 80 will open at 5 p.m.

Friday. CONVENTION FACILITIES The second floor holds the convention facilities. The Grand Ballroom can provide banquet seating for 550 or reception space for 750. It can also be divided into four smaller meeting rooms for 50 or more. A separate banquet kitchen is located next to the ballroom and will provide food service exclusively for that room.

The remainder of the 10-story building is occupied by 272 guest rooms and six suites. Also included in the structure is an underground garage which serves the hotel patrons and has parking for 155 cars. FORMER BUSINESSES The Eldorado is built on the former site of two long-time Reno establishments, Welch's Bakery, which ceased operation last year and the Little Waldorf, which relocated to West Fifth Street. The complex will employ 300 person. It is owned by William Carano, Donald Carano, George Yori, George Siri, Jerry Poncia, and Richard Stringham, all of Reno.

Siri and Stringham are the hotel manager and assistant manager. H. E. McCoskey, formerly of the Crystal Bay Club at Lake Tahoe, is the gaming manager. The city was cited by the FAA in February for failure to maintain adequate security at fixed-base operator locations on the airport and was fined $2,000.

The fine was eventually reduced to $1,000. At last week's city council meeting councilmen expressed concern the city might be fined for security violations again if the gates were not installed. The $40,000 gate system calls for one card-key-operated gate at each of the airport's three fixed-based operations. Juilfs said the FAA has tentatively approved the federal grant. The meeting is to iron out differences between FAA quirements for the gates and city proposals, he said.

Judge James Guinan set that sentence for Judy Lee Small-brook, 20, of 1745 this morning.

Miss Smallbrook was convicted in April on a charge of sale of heroin by a Washoe County jury. The sentencing was continued pending a hearing on a motion for a new trial. The sentence for sale of a controlled substance is from one to 20 years in the Nevada State Prison.
