Levey, strike leader. Since Monday it has been con fined to Kaufmann's and Frank i Seder's, both of which are being picketed.

Membership of Local 29 Building Service Employes' Interna- i tional Union, have authorized strisep also at Joseph Home's, Gimbel's and Boggs Buhl's, according to Mr. Levey, to back up a demand for overtime pay and improved vacation benefits. Statements Issued While the Labor Standards which represents all the stores in collective bargaining was silent. spokesmen for both Kaufmann's and Frank Seder's issued brief state-'ments today: The Kaufmann statement said: I "We are open for business with- I ping public since our 66 escalators are adequately taking care ql traffic throughout the store. "Kaumann's has always given not less than one week's paid vacation to all employes with one year's service.

The vacation policy in effect for the past two years is even more liberal, providing for paid vacations up to four weeks for people in the service 20 years and more. "Kaufmann's definitely discourages overtime work. In the event overtime work is necessary, it is our policy to pay for such work in excess of eight hours in any one day at the rate of time and one-third." At Frank Seder's an official stated "there had been no interruption to business. Vacations with pay have been the practice at this store for some years, and time and one-third has been paid for over- i time." Same Wages Offered The Labor Standards before the strike was called, offered to renew without change its wage agreement with the service union which expired July 31. It has not publicly vacated or altered this offer.

Mr. Levey, international representative of the service union, conferred yesterday with representatives of 19 other American Federation of Labor unions with department store memberships and announced they voted without dissent to support the service union. Leo Abernathy, president of the Central Labor Union, who also participated in the discussion, announced he would lend the weight of his office to any peace negotiations which might be arranged. Mr. Levey said 700 unionists, in addition to about 135 service employes, have left their jobs in Kaufmann's and Frank Sz Seder's in sympathy with his strike.

Among them he included upholsterers; carpet, linoleum and drapery workers; truck mechanics; truck drivers; window trimmers; window washers and warehousemen. Both stores have remained open for business. LIQUOR HAS WALLOP! IT'S LONG JAIL TERM The quart of liquor that Raymond Jay had the night of July 27 had a real wallop in it, apparently. The wallop was received by Nellie Callahan, proprietress or a beer tavern at 218 Sandusky and for that reason Jay was sent to the workhouse today to serve a four to 12-month term on a charge of aggravated assault and battery- Testimony in Judge W. Heber Dithrick's Criminal Court today indicated that Jay, who lives on the river front in the North Side, had taken his bottle of liquor to the beer tavern.

He was sitting at a table, drinking from the bottle, when the proprietress called three husky individuals, sometimes called "bouncers," and ordered them to practice their profession. During the scuffle. Jay swung his bottle. It struck Miss Callahan's head. In court today Jay admitted swinging the bottle, but denied that he intended to hit the woman.

CELLAR CAVE-IN KILLS CLAIRTON RESIDENT Trapped in a cave-in while ex cavating in the cellar of his son's home, Albert Hague, 67, Of New England near Clairton. died to day in McKeesport Hospital. Mr. Hague, who lost a leg 40 years ago, was enlarging the cellar in the home of Albert E. Hague, also of New England Rd.

He was half- buried in a slide of earth, and ex tricated by his son and several neighbors. A little lady of 100 and a curly-headed girl of fourwere shipmates on a TWA air liner out of Pittsburgh today. The centenarian was Mrs. C. W.

McConnel, flying from her home in New York to visit her daughter in Kansas City. Her companion on the flight who boarded the plane at Pittsburgh was Marlene Soltz of 2601 Beechwood Blvd. In the photo Hostess Shirley Heifmister is making sure both are comfortable on their first airplane ride. Mrs. McConnel, who said she was "a friend" and staunch supporter of President Lincoln, made her first trip to the West years ago by covered wagon.

Other passengers on the plane said the aged woman spent most of the hour and a half flying time from New York to Pittsburgh in knitting and chatting with the hostess and other passengers. She even made notations of the trip on a scratch pad. Lege! Notices NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS Office of Treasurer of Allegheny County, Room 108 Court House, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. CLEANS DISINFECTS AND DEODORIZES vf MAN'S 'RADIO MIND' GETS 'POLICE CALL' John Brown's body lies resting in a cell in Central Police Station today because his "radio mind" was not tuned to police calls.

A contributing factor was lack of $50, which Magistrate Albert D. Brandon asked him to produce as a fine on a fortune -telling charge. Brown, a Negro who termed himself a "mentalologist," had an office in the Hill District until his activities were suddenly interrupted by police yesterday. His business cards declared that he was "a man with a radio mind." His arrest followed a visit to his establishment by two policewomen. He promised them wealthy hus bands (although one was already married and a grandmother) and extensive travel, they testified.

He also threw in a couple of lottery numbers which he said were sure to "hit" after he had burned said numbers over the flames from black candles, they said. His secretary, Daisy Meyers, also a Negro, was held for further investigation.
