Air Corps units to be stationed at the Manchester Airport will belong to the Northeast Air District, one of the four aerial commands into which the Air Corps has divided the nation and the one responsible for the aerial defense of the industrial east, including Pittsburgh.

When completed, the Manchester station will house approximately 2270 officers and men of which 1900 will belong to the Air Corps. Major buildings to be constructed there are 35 barracks, five mess halls, an officers' mess, cafeteria, officers quarters, eight administration buildings, guard house, 100-man hospital, Infirmary, theater, recreation building, gasoline storage plant, radio station, ammunition magazines and four warehouses. Units to be stationed there will be the 45th Group of light bombing planes consisting of the 78th, 79th and 80th bombing squadrons and a headquarters and headquarters squadron.
