Thuri. 287-2701 Small Car Shortage Cuts Sales DETROIT (UPI) For the first time since late 1970, U. S. automakers have reported a continued slump in sales due mainly to a shortage of small cars. Domestic sales in the Oct.

11-20 period totaled 268,493 cars, down 15.7 per cent from the same period a year ago. It marked the third consecutive reporting period that sales have slipped on a year-to-year basis. Demand High The slump say auto executives, is not due to a lack of demand but rather a lack of the most sought-after models. Only American Motors reported a gain in mid-October. New car dealers are reporting high interest in the new models, but are complaining they can't get enough of the high-demand cars.

Chrysler Corp. dealers report a general shortage because of recent labor disputes. Ford is short of Pinto and Maverick models, General Motors says it can't meet demands for the Vega, Cama-ro, i i Monte Carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix or Olds-mobile Cutlass Supreme. American Motors says it's being pushed to meet Gremlin and Hornet orders. Parts Shortage Chrysler Chairman Lynn Townsend yesterday said that parts shortages and labor difficulties will continue through the 1974-model year.

Chrysler dealers were able By GEORGE SWETNAM William Addison Magee, one of only four Pittsburgh mayors to be reelected after leaving the office (the others were Magnus Murray, W. C. McCarthy and James Black-more) was a nephew of Christopher L. Magee but not a member of his political ring. Bill Magee was born May 4, 1873, a son of Edward S.

Magee, a half-brother of the ring-master. He began his career as a clerk in the district attorney's office; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1895, and was soon an assistant district attorney. In 1898, he was elected to Select Council, and when Chris Magee died, Bill was chosen to fill the resulting vacancy in the state Senate. At the end of this term, Magee left politics for law until 1906, when he was named county Republican chairman, leading a youth revolt against the Flinn-Magee political ring. People were tired of the infighting between mayor and councils, and in 1909 Magee was elected mayor by more than a 2-1 margin over Democrat George R.

Herbst and William H. Stevenson of the Civic Party. Magee was a deft politician and got a great deal done during his first term, which was extended to almost five years by an act of 1911. This changed tenure from three to four years. But an amendment saying the mayoraly terms were to begin in even numbered years kept him in office until January of 1914.

A law was also passed doing away with the old Common and Select Councils and setting up the present nine-man system. Among the achievements of his first term were the major cutting of the "Hump" or remnant of Grants Hill; raising low streets, and widening and improving many; widening the Smithfield Street Bridge, and building the Bloomfield, Manchester, Larimer Avenue and Murray Avenue bridges; removing most grade crossings; motorizing police and firemen; reorganizing the Department of Health and reducing smoke by half, and setting up the Department of Supplies and the Planning and Shade Tree commissions. Magee returned to law practice, but In 1917 became a member of the state's first Public Service Commission and later was elected to council. He won in a walk In a campaign for a William A. Both represent an Interesting change of pace from the more traditional lawn decorations. One of the most moving, unforgettable Christmas carols of all time is a comparative newcomer the winsome "Little Drummer Boy" with its. "pa-rum-pum-pum" beat.

It tells the story of a little boy (pictured here wfth actress Jennifer King) who comes to pay homage to his newborn King: "Baby Jesus, I am a poor boy too; I have no gift to bring, that's fit for a king; Shall I play for You, upon my drum?" In the other display, a rather harrassed-looking Santa seems to be saying "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date."
