(UP) Alfred Vanderbilt's Stone Age, a 14 to 1 shot, chalked up the most important victory of his young racing career yesterday when he outclassed a bulky field of two-year-olds in the $15,000 Walden Stakes at A holiday gathering of 20,000 were treated to a surprise as Stone Age moved up fast in the drive and drew away to a three-length margin over C. M. Kline's capable Slam Bang at the wire. SI-AM BANG, an odds-on choice, got to the head of the pack swinging through the final bend of the mile and a sixteenth jaunt.

However, the young colt couldn't match the winner's speed in the home lane, settling for the place position, a half-length ahead of Greentree stable's One Hitter. Stone Age boasted only one victory In 12 previous trips to the post. Disconsolate was coupled with the winner and the Vander-bilt entry returned $29.60, $7 and $3.80. Slam Bang paid $3 and $2.40, and One Hitter returned $3.20. The time was a snappy 1:43 flat.

at IK! If atom ODD i mm By JIM SCHLEMMER Bantam league football games attracted only 7,896 paying customers in the season which closed Saturday night: 5,811 adults and 2,175 children. The attendance was the smallest in the league's history, being scarcely half of last year's total which in itself was a new low. Vet the Bantam treasury will have a balance of not less than $7,000 when all bills are paid. The financial status is almost twice as strong as of a year ago. League games put only $4,354.05 into the box office but the Bantams received $7,044.04 from BBB club memberships, $16,839.46 from the annual preview in Rubber Bowl, and $5,521 from miscellaneous sources including sale of the Buchtel field lights to Kent State university.

THE BANTAM steering committee last night decided to recommend to the board of governors that a new drive for BBB club members be staged shortly after the first of the year and that the $1 membership cards in 1949 be good for admission to all regular league games. This would make for just about the lowest costing football entertainment in Akron's history. The BBB club, by the way, stands officially for Bantam Boy Boosters. But there are other meanings, too, such as: Build Better Boys, Bucks Build Boys, Bantam Buck Brigade and a lot of other combinations involing Bantams, boys and bucks the buck In this case referring to the $1. STEERING committee made numerous other recommendations which the governors will consider and most likely pass at a meeting soon to be held.

Included were these: 1 To divorce the South Akron Rangers band from the South Akron Rangers and develop it into a Bantam band representing the entire league. 2 To demand stronger and more energetic district organizations and to give each district a higher minimum quota of BBB memberships to sell 3 To combine the offices of league president and managing few Tumbling act?
