Several items of business were discussed. HERSHBERGER DIES AT WICHITA, KANS. Mrs. Ruby Louise Sloan, 52 years and 8 months, died suddenly at her home in Wichita, Sunday evening of a heart attack. She was born Jan. 1, 1922 at Melrose, to Wallace and Cora (Lemley) Means.

Surviving are her widower. Gene; one son, John W. Besco, Jr. of Melrose; two daughters, Miss Connie Besco of Keokuk and Mrs. Jolene (Robert) Abrahamson of Har- Dan; three grandchildren; her mother, Mrs.

Cora Means of Melrose, two brothers, Leo Means of Lucas, and Raymond Means of Melrose; and four leisters, Mrs. Madonna (Walter) Abbas 'and Mrs. Theresa (Alfred) McGee, both of Melrose, Mrs. Marte (Huston Jr.) Comstock of Taintor, and Mrs. Doris (Charles) Hershbcrger of Albia.

A service was held in Wichita at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept 4, and the body brought to Albia where a service was held Thursday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m. at Humeston Funeral Home. In charge of Rev.

Laverne Leigh, soloist Paul Klingensmith, and organist Vera Kllng- ensmith. Pallbearers were Donald Garrett, Chariton; Kenneth Comstock, Marshall Comstock, of Melrose; Daniel Comstock of Taintdr; Leroy Comstock of Oskaloosa; and James Hershberger of Albia. All were nephews. A skit "Neglected" taken from September membership Emphesis was given by Marjorie Paxston, Marion Woodward and Barbara Uhles. Mrs. Patty Self had the lesson learning more about South America. Those who took part with her were: Mr. and Mrs.

Frank Woodward, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Smith and Rev. Uhles. Mrs.

Doris Main gave an interesting article on the Alabaster Box work. We were glad to have nine new members to join our missionary society for this year. These meetings are very interesting. MOKAVIA, IOWA HOSPITAL AUXILIARY PLANS ANNUAL COUNTY FAIR Members of the Monroe County Hospital Auxiliary are completing plans for their annual county fair, the one fund raising project for the organization during the year. The fair is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. Dinner will be served in the 4-H Building starting at o'clock. Serving as general chairperson is Mrs.

Albert president of the auxiliary. Chairpersons named for the booths are: Mrs. Kenneth Bettis, home made candy and popcorn balls; Mrs. Herbert Bettis, cake walk; Mrs. Albert Spaur, jewelry; Mrs.

EASTERN STARS PLAN CAKE WALK.FOR FESTIVAL Tuesday evening the'Moravia Q.E.S. met for their regular meeting with Mrs. Wanda VanBenthuy- sen presiding worthy, matron. Following the Opening, the worthy matron read the names of the fifty- year members, though none were present, they were honored with their names on gold stars on a white backdrop in the east. Also lonored were 25-year members or more, seven were present and honored.

Lucile Carter, organist, was lien honored being presented to the Star points and presented with red roses and a gift. Invitations to Friendship meet- ngs were read and discussed. Also a report on Grand Chapter to be held to October was read. The members were reminded about the cake walk to be held Friday night at the Fall Festival, also Rainbow cake walk on Thursday night The stars also are giving away a woven rug with donations as a money project for this year.
