Special Itaniit Featurn Chicken Dinner ji All Vou Can Eat aCiOU SUNSET INN 4315 Manchester Road At Too of Hat fllll if Suspense Helps Topical Yarn By PEGGY STARR Theater Writer WITH THE recent flood of counterfeit money throughout the country, "Trapped'' at the Strand, is timely.

It shows government agents tracking down the phony money and the men printing it. We've had a cycle of these films lately. "Trapped" has much that i3 typical of them cut aaas suspense and some strong characterizations to lift it above the norm Lloyd Bridges, last seen as a soldier In "Home of the Brave," turns crooked in this one. He does a hangup job as a count erfeiter sprung from prison by federal agents, in order to lead them to the Rang that has the plate and is flooding the roimtry with bogus hills. Double crossing his guard, he escapes on his own and locks up his girl friend, Barbara Payton.

He finds James Todd has taken over control of the mob and arranges to help him unload the money in Mexico. Meanwhile, a shady character, John Hoyt, has started a campaign to win Miss Payton. Being loaded with dough, Bridges figures he's the man to buy him into Todd's deal. Hoyt is an undercover agent, natch. THE (HVSE settles down in earnest with hidden microphones and carefully planned trips playing their part.

Suspense is built up when each of the traps is thwarted. The climax the usual chase-has Todd and the T-men shooting it out in a car barn. Well, the locale is different anyway. Performances are. uniformly good.

Hoyt's portrait of the masquerading agent, is Imaginative and realistic. He's so sinister that the audlenee is positive that he'll turn out to be a gangster himsolf. That's high compliment for his work. Miss Payton has plenty of allure. As the one who tips off the gang to 'Hoyt's identity, she plays an important part in the plot structure.

Todd is well cast as the head countprfeiter. A word must be "said for Bert Conway in a small role as Bridge's ex-partner. Now a wine sot, his fright at Bridge's appearance and their subsequent scuffle is a sample of superb miming. Children will find it exciting. 18 minutes.) SECOND feature at the Strand is "Down Memory Lane," a com bination of some of the best slapstick comedy of other years as produced and directed by Mack Sennett. His bathing girls and Keystone Cops are a part of the tradition of movie-making. In the film, the younger generation has a chance to see what real movie comedy not dependent on sound always, was.
