EIGHT EVENING TIMES, CUMBERLAND, MIX, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 29, Phone 4600 for a WANT AD Taker $13,000 Sought Li Damage Suits " ' Allen Broadwater has been named defendant in two damage suits totaling 313,000 filed yesterday in Circuit Court as the result of a vehicle collision on Henderson Avenue last October 31.. The one.'suit, claiming $10,000, is filed by Mrs. Laura Virginia Smith for persocul injuries, hospital and medical .expenses ixnd loss of time -from her employment'as a scam- stress at Memorial Hospital. The suit, filed by James 'Alfred Avlrett, attorney, states Mrs. Smith •was a passenger in a ca:: operated by her husband, Lewlsi William Smith, traveling west on. the avenue. Her husband was blinded momentarily by lights'from an eastbound auto, and his • car crashed against the rear of Broadwater's coal truck, which they claim was parked at an angle without lights. Mrs. Smith claims she suffered permanent injuries and lost all but five of her teeth in'the'crash when she was hurled against the, windshield of the car. In the second suit, Smith claims $3,000 for personal damages result- Ing from loss of his wife's services. Last November 13,. E. J. Ryan, attorney for Broadwater, docketed a suit against Smith for $2,000 dam- nges to his truck. In that suit, which is 1 still pending, Broadwater claims his truck was worth $1,000 prior to the crash but was sr> badly damagen- its salvage value was $851 He claims $2,000 for loss of the vehicle and loss of income he derived-from. haul- Ing coal In the truck. Council to Meet , • The Mayor 'and Council will meet tomorrow at 10 a, m. to pass the payroll. Fcnnil Appeal Filed Willi Local Board of Zoning An appeal with the Bo4rd of Zoning Appeals has been filed by Joseph Robinette, 318 North Mechanic Street, for a permit to locate Square Deal Auto' Sales business at 303 North Mechanic Street. The concern operates at 128 North Mechanic Street. The proposed site, a vacant " lot, was formerly occupied by residence buildings which were torn down a number of months ago. Owner of the site Is John Stewart. City Engineer Ralph L. Blzer denied the application because the property Is located in a Residential C zoning district, A permit was granted to Lloyd E. Scheurling, 700 Louisiana Avenue, to build a house and garage on Lots 50 and 57, Holland Street, in the Dllfer Farms Addition. The one-story structure will measure 43.4 by 44.4 feet, with a concrete block foundation, brick veneer walls and a composition shingle roof. Work, will be done 'by the owner and cost is, estimated at $12,000.'
