Earney, 39, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital, Monday, at 2:05 p. m. apparently victim of a heart attack. He suffered the fatal illness white cutting meat. With him at the time was his wife, Mrs. Margaret Eamey, who assists him In the store. Shortly before his death, Earney had asked his wife if she thought it was warm in the store, but had said nothing about being ill. She left him to go to the tront of the store to check some receipts and within a few seconds when she returned to the meal department she found him sitting on a box, slumped over. Mrs. Earney ran next door to summon aid, and an ambulance to move him to the hospital, but death apparently had- been almost Instantaneous. Me was a native and resident of Granite City prior to moving to Alton In 1949. Before engaging in business for himself, he had worked in the meat departments of both Kroger and Tri City stores in Alton. Marion (Doris) Brown, Edwards- vllle; a brother and three sisters, Mose Smith, Mrs. Mabel Bro\v7j and Mrs. Dorothy Pen- olton, all of Edwardsville, and Mrs. Minta Oldharn, residing in Indiana. Friends mny call at Straube Funeral Home from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 1:30 p.m. Thursday, when the body is to be taken to A.M.E. Wesley Chapel for funeral services at 2 p.m. in charge of the pastor. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. E. J. Venhaus Edward J. Venhaus, 52, circuit clerk of Clinton County for the past n years, and Democratic candidate for re-election in the coming election, died at 6:03 n. m. today at his home in Breese. according to word received by a brother. Andrew J. Venhaus of 720 E. Sixth St. Venhaus, who was the father of five children, Lillian, Karen, Marvin, Leola and Linda Kay, had been 111 for the pant two months.
