Ches-. gen of the Carstens addition which Is proposing to enter Wood River if It Is permitted at the clection on February 1, for which notices were posted today, it Is said that the opposition is considerably wakened. Mr. Chessen proposed to pay for big share of the improvements. A house to houne campaign 2.8 recently made to defeat the proposition of annexation.

One of the main arguments in favor of annexation la the opening of Springer street through to East Alton which will bring the greator part of the traffia between Alton and East St. Louis through Wood River. Land on Fosterburg Road Has Been Changing Hands and Neighborhood Will Soon Be Very Different. The whole country east of Upper Alton seems to be changing bands and from present indications it will scon be so that a person will have to go out there and get acquainted all over again.

The people out on the Fosterburg road seem to be keeping the pace with the crowd over on the Bethalto road who have sold out to the state. On the Fosterburg road as you go ont after loaving the the first place on the the old Major Moore place, was purchased last week by H. G. Bassett. A little farther on the Kirkpatrick place to the right has been bought by the state.

Then the next change' is adjoining the Kirkpatrick place where the firm of Moore Gabriel are dissolving partnorship. Next comes the Chartey Brandt place which was reported sold but the sale did not go through and -ho rented the place: to. Pete Klinke who has moved to it and has taken charge. Next the old Budde place which was sold last -week by Henry Klopmeier to the Gabriel Brothers who will convert it into an up-to-date dairy. About a mile farther on comes the old Dooling place which is just being purchased-by-Dr.

Stanley Castle of Upper Alton. This takes you almost to Fosterburg, Over'. on the Bethalto road commoncing at the "forks" the wholo' country on both sides of the road 'a sold to the state. This is the greatest change 'In the farming neighborhood of Alton that ever occurred in such a short space of time. All the land sold on either the Fostorburg or, Bethalto roads brought big prices.

Nothing, was. sold below a hundred dollars per acre and most of the land outside of the state's purchase brought $150 per acre. Clark Building May Be Enlarged. The accident to the W. A.

Clark building which occurred last Tuesday n'ght may cause the building to be oplarged. A. Clark, the owner, is considering a plan to extend the building another twenty-ftve feet in the rear including both stories. The theater on the first floor has been leased to one of the down town managers for a picture show and the question of enlarging the rests with the theater manager. Seats bad been purchased for.

the picture show house according to the original size of the building, Mr. Clark has made a proposition to the manager to get more seats and. -make the house longer. Reeder Homestead to Be Sold. The old Reeder homestead, the estate of the late William Reeder, will bo sold next Monday afternoon At 2 o'clock by Master in Chancery J. V. E. Marsh.
