Spring 2004 classes start this month, March 20. Ages 4 through 6 years old (Lil' Dragons), 6 through 12 years old (Karate Kids), and 12 years through adult (Teen/adult). For more information, call the PAL Voice Mail at 468-4288 and leave your name and number or call the Redwood Health Club at 4680441 and ask for Kathy. You can also drop in for the class. Youth classes at the Redwood Health Club meet on Saturdays, beginning at 2:30 p.m. There is a $5 yearly insurance fee for PAL Programs. Softball/Baseball Umpire Clinic The City of Ukiah Community Service Department would like to announce the opening of registration for the Softball/Baseball Umpire Clinic. This clinic is for ages seven and up who are interested in becoming an umpire or who would like more training and tips from an experienced umpire. This clinic is held Tuesday and Thursday, March 23 and 25, at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Anton Stadium. The fee is $20.00. Pre-register at the City of Ukiah, 411 W. Girls softball clinic The city of Ukiah and the Ukiah High Wildcats would like to announce the beginning of registration for a girls softball clinic supervised by the Ukiah High School softball coaching staff, players and other local coaches. The clinic will be held on Saturday, April 3, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Ukiah High School softball fields and is open to girls 10 to 14 years old. The cost is $25 per player. Pre-registration is required and can be done at the city of Ukiah. Rain date is April 12. Call Gina Greco at the Ukiah Community Services Department (463-6201) for more information. Bocce Spring League sign- ups Brutocao Schoolhouse Plaza in Hopland is taking team and individual applications for its spring league, which begins April 5 and runs 10 weeks. Healdsburg United Inferno Girls U17/18 competitive soccer tryouts Class I tryouts for the Healdsburg United Inferno U-17/18 girls will be on April 6 and 8 at Foss Creek from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Foss Creek School in Healdsburg. (Directions: 101 South, exit Dry Creek and turn left, left at second light (Healdsburg Avenue), school will be on the left (1557 Healdsburg Ave)). The Inferno is a good option for those willing to train at a high level and those who wish to prepare for the high school season and for those who are considering playing at the college level. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-12. Each day of camp is filled with fundamental skills, progression drills, easy-to-understand instruction, as well as games and competitions. The camp needs a minimum of 25 campers so make sure you pre-register at the city of Ukiah. Lunch is not provided. Bring a sack lunch each day to camp. Tuition is $190 per camper. Indoor soccer league Lake County Roller Rink and Indoor Sports Arena is hosting a coed indoor soccer league starting April 14. Sign-ups are on or before March 24 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the coed adult league. There is also a youth co-ed league. Individual sign-ups are welcome. The fee is $50 per individual and $450 per team (11 players or more). Call (707) 263-4000 for more information. Pee-wee roller hockey Lake County Roller Rink and Indoor Sports Arena is hosting a peewee division roller hockey league. Roller hockey players 10 years and younger are eligible to sign up. 'Bowl for Kids' Sake' events Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Mendocino County is hosting a pair of "Bowl for Kids' Sake" events locally. One is slated for April 17 at Yokayo Bowl in Ukiah. Willits 'Sober Grad' Golf Tourney The Willits "Sober Grad" Golf Tournament Fundraiser, held at the Brooktrails Golf Course is scheduled for May 1. Sixteen four-person teams will tee off at 9 a.m. Proceeds support the Willits High School Class of 2004. Sign up at the golf course or by calling Ron at (707) 459-6761. UPOA to battle Niners in b-ball challenge The Ukiah Police Officer's Association will be hosting members of the San Francisco 49ers in a basketball challenge at Mendocino College on Saturday, May 8. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Seating is limited and the event typically sells out. This event is promoted through telephone sales. If interested in purchasing tickets or advertising in the program, call 4621931. Boxers wanted Boxing classes are offered by the Mendocino County Sheriff's PAL and are ongoing at the Redwood Health Club. Classes are a mix of all ages and levels. PAL Karate The Sheriffs Youth Karate Program (PAL) at the Redwood Health Club is holding classes on Tuesday nights through March, starting at 5 p.m. for ages 4 through 6, 5:30 p.m. for ages 7 through 12 and at 7 p.m. for teens and adults. No RHC membership is required for participation. PAL fetches a yearly $5 insurance and administrative fee per student. Deputy Mike Tobin is the class instructor.
