14 Redwood Region Logging Conference March 2004 11:00 AM LADIES DAY LUNCHEON Price $35.00 Come join your friends for a delightful day experiencing the incredible organic gardens of the Fetzer Vineyards in Hopland. The Valley Oaks Gardens are a place where the rest of the world slips away and wine tasting takes on a fresh dimension. The RRLC Ladies Day Garden Tour begins at 11:00 AM with lunch being served in the Pavilion by the lake at 12:30. The Shining Star Award will be announced to honor a special lady for her dedication to the Timber Industry. Please join your friends at the Logging Conference Ladies Day Luncheon for this special annual event. 1:00 PM CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL LOG BOOK WORKSHOP Free California Highway Patrol is sponsoring the Log Book workshop that will cover both Interstate and Intrastate requirements. The class is approximately 2 hours long and will be in the Fine Arts Building on the Fairgrounds. The class will take place at the Hampton Inn Conference Room in Ukiah. 1:OOPM HIGH SCHOOL FORESTRY COMPETITION The Forestry Contest is in its ninth year at the Redwood Region Logging Conference. There are 10 events in the contest testing skills and knowledge. Knowledge subjects consist of tool, wood, and plant identification, map reading, terminology, log scaling, and table interpretation. The skill portion of the contest challenges the contestants in the use of the hand compass, determining acreage of an area by pacing, and measuring trees. Students from High Schools throughout California compete for cash and scholarship prizes on an individual and team basis. The contest is Friday afternoon at the fairgrounds and winners are announced at the Lumberjack Breakfast on Saturday morning. SATURDAY 3/20/04 8:30 AM LUMBERJACK BREAKFAST Price $12.00 The Lumberjack Breakfast features the presentation of the Educational Scholarships. Three Emanuel Fritz Memorial Scholarships. In the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded to students at Cal Poly, Humboldt State University of California or Berkeley. Two $500.00 Kent Holmgren Memorial Scholarships will awarded to students currently enrolled in the Forestry Program at College of the Redwoods. In addition to the Scholarship presentations, the awards from the High School Forestry Competition will be announced. Drivers must have a Class A Drivers Li cense and sign up on site at 9:30 AM. Entry fee is free and trophies will be awarded to first, second and third.
