The opening of the Ouatoga Theater last night was a great event in Upper Alton, and the peoturned out well. to attend the ple in the town of first 'entertalnment that kind. The attendance was very to Manager James J. gratifying Reilley, and from the way the show started out It will cortainly DO a great thing for Upper Alton and IL paying investment for those who their money into it. It is have put said there were 600 people attended the show during the evening on the opening day.

The first show opened 'up with an attendance of 400. The now show house seats 360 people and the mannger counted those standing in the rear and there were 54 at one thine who did not have geats. The rear, part of the theater has not furnished with seats but' it will be as soon AB it becomes necessary. Manager, Reliley says he will put on different pictures every night and that he has A fine one for this evening. W.

Clark, proprietor of the bullding, deserves great credit for the manner In which he has turnished the Upper picture house. Hauling Hock to Repair Overflow Damage. Highway Commissioner Elmer Groshan commenced work this atternoon with a force of mon and teams hauling rock to the "forks. of the road" cast of Upper. Alton to repair the road where Wood River washed out the road during the two recent overflows. When Wood.

River goes on a rampage the current passes down just in front af the old Forkyville saloon. building instead of in the creek and the roads badly damaged. Large holes were washed and it will require much rip rap to fill them up. After the holes are filled with rip rap Mr. Groshan will cover the entire road there with.
