Mr. and Mrs. John Zelenka Johnsons to observe their 50th anniversary 50th open house to fete the Zelenkas ASSARIA — Tuesday, Jan. 23, is the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Johnson, 11064 S. Hopkins Road. A family dinner is planned later this year. The couple have four children: Larry of Minneapolis, Minn.; Loren of Assaria; Linda Hubalek of Aurora, Colo., and Loretta Mayfield of Mannheim, Germany. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Johnson and the former lone Akers wed Jan. 23,1946, in Lindsborg and since have lived on a farm near Assaria. 50 YEARS AGO — Arlene Pe- howic Johnson and Richard L. Sheahon. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sheahon Golden event honors Sheahons The Parish Hall of the St. Mary, Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina is to be the scene of a 2 to 4 p.m. reception Jan. 28, in celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Sheahon, 504 E. Jewell. A Mass is scheduled for them at 10 a.m. in the church. Hosts are the honorees' six children, and their spouses: Richard and Julie Sheahon and Steve and Bonnie Sheahon of Wichita; Joan and Terry Wood of Topeka, and Salinans Mary Pat and Jim Weese, Jack and Anita Huntley Sheahon and Mike and Judi Sheahon. There are 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Sheahon and the former Arlene Pehowic Johnson exchanged wedding vows Jan. 28,1946, in San Antonio, Texas. They lived in Atchison and Damar before moving to Salina in 1958. An Army Air Force veteran of World War II, Sheahon taught school for 15 years in Damar, Kipp and at Salina's Sacred Heart Junior High. He retired in 1983 from Beechroft, Cole and Co. His wife is a WAC Air Force veteran. She taught school in Pennsylvania, Huron and Damar and for 27 years in the Salina School District, retiring in 1985. All friends and relatives are invited to their celebration. The couple request no gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Koch Kochs plan 50th event BELOIT — In observance of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Koch, 921 Locust, Cawker City, a family dinner is planned Jan. 27 at Beloit's Country Club. Mrs. Koch is the former Mary Pirotte. Attending will be the couple's six children, and their families: Jane Moore of Topeka; Susan Scott of Tempe, Ariz.; Dale and Reba Koch and Judy and Mike Heidrick of Beloit; Becky and Alan Gruwell of Grand Island, Neb., and Joyce Thille of Gilbert, Ariz. Three of their nine grandchildren will be unable to attend. The Kochs exchanged wedding vows Jan. 29,1946, in Cawker City. He is a retired farmer and stockman. His wife retired in 1982 from Richardson Manufacturing Co. in Cawker City. 80th observance for Bessie Wood ABILENE — Wednesday, Jan. 24, is the 80th birthday of Bessie Ellen Wood, Box 369, Abilene, KS 67410. A card shower is slated for her. A family dinner also is planned today at Salina's Western Sizzlin Steak House. Hosts are her two living daughters, Lael Seymour of Burrton and Selena Book, and a son-in-law and daughter-in-law; Don Weers of Salina and Ada Wood of Abilene. Two other children, Rowenna Weers and Tharon Wood, are deceased. There'are 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Born Bessie Ellen Tate Jan. 24, 1916, in Kinsley, she married LeRoy Wood in 1934. She lived in Stafford County and from 1954 to 1982 in Solomon. Since then, Mrs. Wood has been a resident of the Brown Memorial Home, Abilene. BABIES A daughter, Krista Marie, was born Jan. 17 to Scott and Shelby Norman of St. Mary's, Ga. Grandparents are Salinans Elzie and Jan Norman. Great-grandmother is Florene Morgan of Salina. • •• A daughter, Hannah Beth, was born Jan. 11 to Salinans Joseph and Cindy Larson, 1308 E. Minneapolis. Grandparents are Ron and Betty Rigney, 907 Burr Oak Lane, and Harold and Royanne Larson, 2121 Hillside Drive. Washington. A dance is to follow at 8:30. Zelenka is formerly of Wilson and Salina. The celebrants have four children: Sue Trout of Minnespolis; Janet Zeller of Wichita, Nancy Harman of Garden City and Mark of Salina. There are two grandchildren. Zelenka and the former Marie Kultgen were married Jan. 24, 1946, in Great Bend. He served in World War II and retired after 44 years as an electrician. His wife is a homemaker. All friends and relatives are invited. The couple request no gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lauber Laubers plan golden occasion WICHITA — A 1 to 4 p.m. reception is scheduled Saturday, Jan. 27, at Morgan's Landing Clubhouse, 3801 W. 13th, in celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lauber (Arline Smith). They are formerly of Salina. Entertaining for all friends and family will be their three daughters, Cathrine Weigel of Topeka and Theresa, Kalinowski and Georgia Lickly of Wichita. Assisting will be four granddaughters. There are five other grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The Laubers were wed Jan. 27, 1946, in Salina where they lived until moving to Wichita in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked for Cessna, then Boeing Aircraft Corp. in Wichita as a layout man. Lauber retired from Boeing in 1990. His wife was a homemaker. They request no gifts. 80th card shower slated for Roland Diehl ASSARIA — A card shower is planned Jan. 30, in observance of the 80th b irth- day of Roland Diehl, 225 Highland. A family dinner also is slated Jan. 28, but an open house has been cancelled. Diehl and his wife, Beth, have three daughters: Sheila Mclntosh of Houston; Karen Hallinan of East Douglas, Mass., and Connie Dillner of Hoyt. There are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The honoree retired after niany years as manager of Johnson Elevator in Assaria. DIEHL Mr. and Mrs. Albert Graham Grahams celebrate their 50th date Salinans Mr. and Mrs. Albert Graham, 827 Merrill, observed their golden wedding anniversary with a dinner Saturday, Jan. 20, at Russell's Restaurant. A family gathering followed at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dean Long, 515 N. 13th. The honorees also celebrated at Christmas with their two sons, and their families, in Albuquerque, N.M. Michael lives in Truckee, Calif., and Richard is a resident of Albuquerque. There are four grandchildren. The marriage of Graham and the former Marjorie Mattison was solemnized Jan. 20,1946, in Salina where the couple since have lived. He retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation. Emma Ponton to have her 94th birthday PORTAGE, Ind. — Monday, Jan. 22, is the 94th birthday of Emma L. Ponton, 6043 Cardinal Avenue, Portage, IN 46368. A family dinner is scheduled today at her home. The honoree is a former resident of Manchester, Kan. She has six living children: Sylvia Moore, Lillian Roman and Ellis Ponton of Portage; Virginia Spurlock of Valparaiso, .Ind., and Leo and Jerry Ponton of Manchester. Another son, Gerald, is deceased. There are 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 15 great- great-grandchildren. Born Emma Hewes Jan. 22, 1902, she married Archie Ponton in 1919 in Lincoln, Kan. She lived for 41 yearg in Junction City where they owned Pon- tons Dairy, 11 years in Manchester and for the past 25 years in Portage.
