OK, here's his favorite film: MILWAUKEE — Richard Dreyfuss says he is asked to name his favorite film so often that he no longer answers. "OK. 'The Goodbye Girl' and 'Mr. Holland's Opus,' " he grudgingly told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Dreyfuss said he was especially pleased with how "Mr. Holland's Opus" seemed to inspire school districts to increase their spending for music programs. "I walked around the country and was amazed at how I had affected people so much with that film," he said. "I was given something special with that part." Fuhrman writes new book STAMFORD, Conn. — Mark Fuhrman, the former Los Angeles police detective who gained notoriety in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, is writing a book about the unsolved 1975 murder of a Greenwich teen-ager. Fuhrman is investigating the murder of 15- year-old Martha Moxley as a follow-up to his best- selling "Murder in Brentwood" about the Simpson case, The (Stamford) Advocate and the Long Island, N.Y., newspaper Newsday reported Tuesday. "This case involves money, power and influence, something I know about," Fuhrman told Newsday. Ivana Trump single again NEW YORK — Ivana Trump is single again. Sickness and the. thought t>f death take us to life's darkest corners. It is not easy to live in such a space. No one should have to face it alone. A supportive companion for those who are struggling with serious medical problems is a book by Dr. Jerome Groopman, a renowned cancer and AIDS specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. This book deals both medically and philosophically with problems that can be overwhelming. It casts a comforting light on shadowy subjects that most people don't know how to talk about. ANN LANDERS Creators Syndicate Inc. I would not have believed there could be hope or comfort in a book dealing with cancer and AIDS, but I was wrong. If you or someone you care about is struggling with either of these illnesses, I urge you to get this book. The title is "The Measure of Our Days." The publisher is Viking. The price, $23.95. It could be the best investment you will ever make. Dear Ann Landers: A woman named Carrie Schneider wrote the enclosed letter to the editor, which I read in The Repository in Canton, Ohio. It was extremely moving and helped me realize how great American teen-agers are and how rarely they get the credit they deserve. I hope you will print this so they can get some positive publicity for a change. — Longtime Reader in Ohio Dear Ohio: Teen-agers today seem to be getting a lot of bad press. I'm pleased to print something positive. It would be wonderful if those teen-agers saw this let- TV TONIGHT ter and contacted Carrie Schneider. I hope she'll let me know if it happens. Here's the letter to the editor: "A few days ago, I experienced an incredible act of kindness from two teenagers. I was visiting Canton, and while driving with my triplet babies, my car was hit from the side. I was thrown out and was lying on the road, nearly unconscious, with no idea if my babies were dead or alive. "The person who had smashed my car was already long gone, and while many people were crowding around to stare, no one was doing anything. Then, out of nowhere, two teen-agers were at my side Christina Shorie and Shawn Carey. Christina immediately called 911 from her cellular phone, and they instructed her to keep me awake and talking. Shawn talked to me, and at that time, Christina noticed the babies and got them out of the car. Not half a minute later, the car went up in flames. "The only thing I know about the two is that Christina goes to a local high school and Shawn was visiting from New York City. They did everything in their power to make sure that I and my babies survived. I will be forever grateful to them. I owe them my life, not to mention the lives of my precious children. "Thank God they stopped at the accident because if they hadn't, I wouldn't be here today. — Carrie Schneider, Calif." Dear Ann Landers: I am writing about a recent letter in your column concerning a brother who refused to reconcile with his sister in spite of her efforts to extend the olive branch. I noted with interest that he is a preacher. What does he preach about? — M.S.C. in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Dear M.S.C.: I don't have the faintest idea. Maybe a member of his congregation who knows about the situation will write and tell us. i 10/1/97 7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30 10:00 10:30 7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30 10:00 10:30 | PBS, Bunker Hill-Hays Russell 6710 Within Walls Rod Serllng: For Approval 42623 Foto15772 Kansas Week The Contrary IB MTV Beavis 704772 Beavis 434401 Countdown 352468 Grudge Match Austin Stories Oddville.MTV Lovellm I NBC, Wichita Major League Baseball Playoffs Divisional Round Game 1 -• Teams to Be Announced. 877913 News 3835994 Tonight Show 33 The Nashville Network Life of Willie Nelson 168739 Prime Time Country 144159 Exclus.-Leeza 157623 Dallas 150710 X, Wichita-Saline Beverly Hills, 90210 73449 Party of Five 82197 Newt 28401 Real TV 94517 Roseanne Cheers 03 Comedy Central Movie * *»"Caddyshack" (1980), Bill Murray 5526951 South 5460371 Make-Laugh Dally 1909536 Stein's Money | CBS, Topeka Nanny 1284 Murphy 6081 Public Eye 63587 Chicago Hope 86333 News 4850555 Late 83439468 93 Odyssey Our House 8238975 Triumphs Spiritual Home Heroes of the Heart 8234159 Our House 8237246 (Access 6, Sallna Community 19623 Cutting Edge: Christie Ryan 45619 United Way Luncheon 18994 3D ESPN NHL Hockey Florida Panthers at Philadelphia Flyers.
