Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Sholich's pictures were made on linen in 1908. Most of the photos in the display show a sense of restrained jubilation on the part of the bride and groom. But pictures don't tell all.

The still faces of one turn-of-the-century couple tell nothing of the next 25 years they were to spend together. After rearing six children, the couple decided to separate. With most of the other pictures, viewers will have to wonder what happened since the "I do's" were exchanged. Visitor to the library may find that they know the rest of the story behind a picture or two. Patrons are frequently discovering people that they know in the picture display.

One couple who lived in Oakland came in and spotted someone they knew, according to Miss Behan. "It gets to be a small world," she said. Library patrons who keep their eyes open will be able to realize just how small the world can be. If they look carefully at the wedding pictures, they will see the familiar faces of Diane Yates, Betty Kakavis and Marilyn Graham all members of the library staff. By MARA MEISEL When Emanuel Hornrett and Theresa Eichman put on their finery and posed before the photographer in Furth, Germany, little did they know that their wedding picture would become the center of attention at a North Hills library 117 years later.

The picture is the oldest of 23 wedding photos that fill a display case at the Township of Shaler North Hills Library, 1822 Mount Royal Blvd. Since June is one of the most popular months for weddings, the library staff decided to have an exhibit of wedding pictures submitted by local residents. The collection is on display throughout the month. The exhibit has attracted a lot of attention from patrons, according to head librarian Mary C. Behan.

"It's funny," she said. "We've had some very beautiful displays of art, and everybody's looking at this more than they did at anything else." One of the reasons for the popularity of the bridal exhibit may be that it offers a glimpse of the changing fashions and times, from 1862 to the present. Few brides today would think of wearing a dark taffeta dress, as did Mrs. Hornrett. And although modern bridegrooms are still encumbered by cummerbunds, the high, starched collars are no longer in vogue.

Some of the photos are works of art. The first, "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court," was also produced by WQED and filmed in part at Hartwood. All others have been produced in England.
