4—FRIDAY, MARCH 5, 2004 ON THE MARKET A wraparound porch plus three bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths fits all in 1,650 square feet. Hope well's design includes big porch and great room By SCOTT MCALEXANDER Copley News Service A traditional two-story ranch home with numerous windows and a wraparound porch describes the Hope well D6705. This cozy 1,650-square-foot home has a two-car garage, 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms and special options, such as an unfinished basement of 846 square feet and an unfinished storage area of 274 square feet. The entryway of the Hopewell opens into the great room, which takes up the entire front of the home. It is open with a bay window facing the street, a fireplace and French doors that lead to a bonus area, the enclosed three-season porch. A straight staircase leads to all three bedroom on the second floor and to the unfinished basement dividing the great room from the kitchen and dining room. A corner pantry and closet are at the end of the dining room, which is surrounded by windows. From the dining room there is a door that opens out to the back yard. The kitchen is C-shaped with an eating bar facing the dining area. A double sink with a large window faces the back yard. A smaller secondary pantry is across from the main kitchen counters alongside the refrigerator and a storage closet. The door to the garage is just past the adjacent downstairs half-bathroom. Upstairs are the master suite, two bedrooms, bathroom, washer and dryer closet and the unfinished storage area. The two bedrooms each have two large windows to provide great lighting and a long wall clothes closet. There is a full bathroom nearby in the hallway. The master suite has a main area of more than 179 square feet and is separated by a door from the bathing and dressing area, which includes the shower, spa tub, dual sinks and vanity and a huge walk-in closet. The toilet is kept private behind its own door. The unfinished 274-square-foot storage area could serve many purposes. It could be finished to serve as a game room, spare bedroom, computer room or study. It should not be next to trees and shrubs that compete for moisture, but it should be part of the overall landscape plan. It should be near the house, so you will tend to it easily, and it should be near a source of water. It must be in an area that has good drainage and not flood with every little rain. If you already have a garden, now is a good time to select the varieties you want to grow and begin the indoor planting of early cool-season crops. By deciding what to plant now, you will be less tempted to go on an impulse- buying binge when the first plants show up at the local supermarket. Select crops .based on the following five points: • What vegetables do your family like to eat? There's no point in growing what no one likes. You should plant extras of the favorites. • Is it expensive to buy that vegetable in the season when your garden will be producing? In most of the country, vegetables can be bought very inexpensively most of the summer, so garden veggies may not be cheaper. • Does it taste noticeably better when fresh from the garden? Try eating these vegetables freshly picked and you will notice the difference: asparagus, green beans, sweet corn, herbs, lettuce, melons, onions, peas, spinach, squash and tomatoes. • How much space is available? Some crops have been dwarfed and still yield full- size fruit. Others yield miniature fruit that can be used in salads and Oriental dishes. • Select varieties that are insect- and disease-resistant. Resistance will mean an easier plant to grow, fewer bad See VIEW, Page 6 "Let Us Handle Your Rental Property Professionally!" WWW.
