Here, in case you've forgotten or never knew, are the bowl rnntpsts 1U1J mowing week during which Rose Bowl. Pasadena. Alabama vs. California. Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Colorado vs.

Rice. Orange Bowl, Miami. Michigan State vs. Auburn. Sugar Bowl, New Orleans: Louisiana State vs.

The team will lay over in Gainesville, Fla Wednesday, and will remain for two days of practice, arriving in Miami Dec.

Impartial football fans, considering such a choice purely on football merit, would think a long time before selecting even as gaudy a show as the Rose Bowl over the Cotton Bowl game with a chance to see in action the great "Whizzer" White of Colorado; or the Sugar Bowl where Louisiana State will make an attempt to revenge the upset defeat scored by Santa Clara in last New Year's Day meeting in the same spot. A note or two on the various games, wirea oy orocivcio lr.11r ritAe' training at home except for its final drill, which will be in the stadium in Dallas.

The team will hold a one-day practice at Houston. en route to the game site. L.S. after 15 days rest, returned to real work yesterday. L.

S. U. has one casualty. Commodore Ferguson, reserve tackle, who is definitely out with an ankle injury sustained in an automobile accident this week. A crowd of between 45,000 and 50.000 is expected.

Betting odds: L. S. U. favored, 5 to 3. San Bowl Both teams broke training at the close of the season, and both resumed practice last Monday.

West Rose Bowl Largest crowd in Rose Bowl history will see this one. Some 3000 bleacher seats have been added to the stadium which normally seats 85,000. Biggest headache concerning the Rose Bowl is the matter of tickets. There was a sell-out with out any sort of public sale, and Bowl officials are trying to preserve sanity against frantic requests for "just one pair anywhere in the Bowl." Alabama is working out daily on 1 its home field in Tuscaloosa. Coach Frank Thomas expects to bring his une tney 11 be able to rest up lor the extensive camoaigning that will begin with the turn of the New Year.

Judging on form shown in the pre-vacation days, the year will jikely produce many good teams, but probably few, if any, worthy of super" rating. Pitt, with a veteran senior five, and Duquesne and Tech JtainoPrCrnorcs dominating the staumg inieup. promise another lam-bang city title series the Panthers met defeat twice on a mid-western jaunt thev ftae flah of their Potential strength in trouncing one of the best the Bij: Ten, the Northwestern Wildcats, and Fordham. lech is the "surprise" team of thf early season matches, by toppling Waynesburg, in an over-time game, and last year's district championship ash-Jeff five, intact from the J6- 37 campaign, and Westminster. Duquesne, the city's other question" team, took a shaky decision in the opener against a highly-rated Wittenberg five, then put up a rip-roaring scrap before bowing to Wayncsburg in an over-time game.

Duquesne moves into Duquesne Garden against the Tennessee Vols in the only local holiday dash on the schedule. This intersectional duel is booked for Tuesday, and is expected to test the "big-time" worth cf basketball in the district. In taking a swng around the surrounding district, the Westminster Titans and Waynesburg have already proven that they'll be in the thick of any kind of district championship decisions that are to be handed down. Among those with late opening dates is Penn State. It is more than an idle guess that rates John Lawther Nittany passers an important factor in the Eastern Conference race.

Lawther has a habit of developing winning court combinations. He gave New Wilmington, its first top-notch Westminster court team almost as soon as he took control of basketball destinies at that school early in 1927. The previous year the Titans failed to win a single game. But Lawther met with immediate success. Rated highly as a psychology professor, the quiet-speaking coach had a way with basketball aspirants.

In his 11 years at Westminster, Lawther schooled teams won seven conference and district championships, and placed second twice. His win average, there, was .828. In his first season at Penn State last year State climbed to third place in the Eastern Conference race, and climaxed the season with a 24-21 victory over Pitt, conference champions, and then went on to srnde Tech, 27-25. Starting with a likely-looking crew of sophomores. Lawther "built for the future." Juniors and Seniors were not utilized, so now Lawther has a fast-stepping Junior team, with a lull year's playing experience.

With boys like MiehofT. Proksa, McWilIiams. Proeser and Reichen-baugh returning, things are looking up at the State College school. Virginia will leave Morgantown Tuesday, and will arrive in Dallas, Thursday. Texas Tech will remain at Lubbock until a day or so before the game.

The game already is a sell-out. The 10,000 available seats were taken up as soon as offered. Betting odds: Texas Tech favored, 7 to 5. Although Coach "Chick" Davies is busy these days wttlpping the Duquesne varsity into shape for the annual city basketball wars -with Pitt and Tech, he takes time off now and then to talk over varsity maneuvers with one of the most encouraging freshman crops in recent yeafs. Left to right, above, are five leading candidates, all ex-stars of local championship high school basketball teams: Becker and YVidowitz, Fifth Avenue High; Mil-kovich.

Coach Stub Allison of California has set no definite date for his arrival. During the past week he has had his team practicing at Berkeley.

He has limited the drills to signals, explaining: "I don't want the bays to reach their peak too quickly." Sam Chapman, California's all-American halfback, is handicapped in practice by serious cuts on his left hand. Twenty-two stitches were required to close gaps made when a chair in which he was sitting fell back and his hand plunged into a shattered window pane. Betting odds: California favored, 4 to 3.
