The family requests memorial I WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (UPI) -If Jean Harris is convicted of murdering "Scarsdale Diet" author Dr.

Herman Tarnower, it will be largely because of evidence she supplied herself in statements to the police, in cards and letters to her former lover and in her testimony in open court. More than any of the 92 witnesses who appeared during the 62 days of the trial, Mrs. Harris herself underscored the prosecution's portrait of her as a woman scorned enraged by Tarnower's love affair with a woman 19 years younger. "He slept with every woman he could. I (had) had it," she told detective Arthur Siciliauo moments after the shooting at the doctor's elegant mansion in Purchase, N.Y., last March 10.

Siciliano was not the first witness to talk of Mrs. Harris's hatred for Lynne Tryforos, 38, the "other woman" in the love triangle. Tarnower's housekeeper, Suzanne van der Vreken, told of how the former headmistress of Virginia's exclusive Madeira School for girls of her younger rival and threatened to "make their lives miserable." van der Vreken, who kept detailed diaries on the doctor's dinner: and bed partners, said she and spmetimes Tarnower himself would go i through the house hiding the beloiigings of one woman, "if the oJJier was expected." ''Siciliano testified Mrs. Harris lipid" him she bad "no intentions of going back to Virginia alive," and said; "I remember holding the gun, and I shot him in the hand The gun went off several times." He and other police witnesses said after the killing, Tarnower's bedroom was strewn with Mrs. Tryforos' clothing and possessions presumably thrown to the floor by Mrs.

Harris during an argument with her former lover. Defense and prosecuting attorneys are scheduled to make their summations tomorrow. Judge Russell Legget will give his charge to the jurors Tuesday, and then they will have to decide between two conflicting versions of the killing. Did Mrs. Harris's continuing jealousy drive her to despair and, as she -claims, an intended suicide? Or did her rage lead her to commit a cold, calculated execution? Dr.

Louis Ron, the deputy medical examiner, strongly supported the prosecution's case with testimony that Tarnower was shot four times once in the back a construction he said was hardly "consistent with a struggle over a gun." Mrs. Harris herself could not explain more than two of the four wounds to the doctor's body, saying she was unable to remember them. A host of character witnesses from the Madeira School and other KTiods in her life vouched for Mrs. arris's reputation for "truth and veracity." Then Herbert MacDonell, a ballistics expert, criminologist and professional witness told of finding blood oo a door sill that, be said, proved a shot through Tarnower's hand had gone through a glass door JEAN HARRIS Said she was addicted to drugs. and not into the doctor's chest, as the prosecution sought to demonstrate.

Six pathologists agreed with MacDonell and said Tarnower's wounds were "consistent with a struggle." Only one, however, Dr. Jack Da-vies, offered an explanation of how the other shots to the doctor's body could have been sustained in a struggle. Davies said the repeated rapid firing could have been a "convulsive reaction," even though Mrs. Harris is small and frail and 14 pounds of pressure was required to pull the trigger of the revolver. Then Jean Harris took the stand in her own defense, describing her addiction to "uppers" and "downers" pills Tarnower prescribed for her because she bad a "great fear of exhaustion." 001 Death Notices 001 Death Notices 001 Death Notices 001 Death Notices 001 Death Notices 001 Death Notices 001 Death Notices 001 Death Notices PREVIOUS DEATHS LATEST DEATHS vu Ave.
