Fazio has one of the best shots around and can play point guard.

Record last season: 22-5, 12-0 North, Ut Returning starters: Jen Anderson 5-9, 12.6 ppg), Katie Toole 5-8, 11.0 ppg), Erinn O'Neill 5-10, 13.0 ppg), Erin Leahy 5-7, 4.1 ppg), Missy Sta-vola PG, 5-2, 8.8 ppg). Top newcomers: Emily Murphy 5-9), Danielle Petitti 5-10), Nancy Kegelman 5-7), Kristen Robbins 5-11). Outlook: One of the Shore Conference's more balanced teams, any one of the Bulldogs can come up big on a given night Anderson, Toole and O'Neill were the main scorers last year, while Stavola scored 29 three-pointers. With Petitti and Kegelman joining Murphy off the bench, the Bulldogs' depth will be even stronger.

BY JOHN BUSH CLASS SOUTH IN PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH Red Bank Catholic Coach: Joe Montano, sixth season. Record last season: 22-3 (13-1 in South, tied for first). Returning starters: Angela Cappadona 5-11, 13.7 ppg), Lauren Brutsman 5-9, 9.8 ppg), Erin Douglas 5-9, 3.5 ppg), Abby Crotty 5-7, 9.2 Top newcomers: Amy Nolan PG, 5-7), Valarie Uras 5-8), Michelle Cappadona 5-10), Allison Halsey 5-5). Erin Dolan 5-5), Jen Nixon 5-10), Aidan Viggiano 5-7), Gerianne White 5-5). Outlook: Amy Nolan steps in as the new point guard for the Caseys, whose only losses last season came to St.

John Vianney. Angela Cappadona and Brutsman give the Caseys solid all-around scoring, while Crotty (Shore Conference high 48 3-pointers last year) is the outside threat. Douglas has an improved jumper as well. Off the bench, Michelle Cappadona has had an excellent preseason. As always, getting past Vianney will be RBC's biggest obstacle.

St. John Vianney Coach: Nick Russo, second season. Record last season: 26-4 (13-1 in South, tied for first). Returning starter: Alison MacFarland 5-9, 6.6 ppg). Top newcomers: Amanda Rosato 5-7, 7.6 ppg), Meghan Early 5-8), Erica Rath 6-1), Toni Panza 5-10), Jill DeYoung PG, 5-7), Judy Nea-lon PG, 5-5), Yesenia Burgos 5-5), Noelle Carter 6-0), Regan Apo PG, 5-8).

Outlook: Only MacFarland is back from the starting lineup that won last year's New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament of Champions as well as the Shore Conference Tournament MacFarland will play guard after playing forward last year. Rosato, Vianney's best player off the bench last year, will play off-guard. With Rath, Panza and Carter, Vianney will have its tallest team in years. Despite the loss of six seniors, Russo says the team's primary goal remains the same win the TOC. Red Bank Coach: Gene Scalzo, sixth season.

Record last season: 22-4 (12-0 in North, first). Returning starters: Sarah Fisher PG, 5-11, 13.0 ppg Shniece Perry 5-10, 1 1.0 ppg), Lindsay Robinson 5-9, 6.7 PPg)- Top newcomers: Felicia Harris 5-10), Christina Rible 6-1); Shen-ley Mills 5-9), Janelle Johnson 5-8), Lizzie Fisher 5-8), Tara Ul-Iman 5-7), Tracey Johnson 5- 6). Outlook: The Bucs still have two of the better players in the Shore Conference in Fisher and Perry. Fisher moves to point guard, where she can create as well as hit the jumper. She will also need to maneuver through pressing defenses.

Perry is a top re-bounder who will be asked to shoot from outside. The Bucs will play a 1-3-1 defense, with Rible helping Perry on the boards. Long Branch Coach: Laurie Cancalosl, third season. Record last season: 13-9 (8-4 in North, second). Returning starters: Janaya Harris 6- 1, 10.1 ppg), Denise Reed PG, 5-8, 5.0 ppg), AnnaLisa Brown 5-5, 7.0 ppg), Melissa Accoo 5-8, 7.9 Top newcomers: Felicia Davis 5-8), Rayna Chase 5-7), Nicole Jennings 5-5), Lori Lugos 5-7).

Outlook: The Green Wave will still be scrappy and physical, only a year wiser. Harris is a strong inside player, while Brown is the main 3-point weapon. After losing five of the last six games last season, the Green Wave hope to finish strong this year. Matawan Coach: Peggy Fleischer, 12th season. Record last season: 9-10 (6-6 in North, fourth).

Returning starters: Africa Lee 5-8, 2.5 ppg), Krystyna Zagorski 5-11, 10.1 ppg), Caran Godwin 5-6, 5.6 ppg), Sandra Guedes 5-5, 4.8 ppg). Top newcomers: Rana Wright 5-5), Angela Frederick 5-8), Crystal Bailey 5-4). Outlook: The Huskies lost 15.5 points per game in Beth O'Shea, but Zagorski returns as a solid rebounder and inside scorer. The backcourt will be a strong point between Guedes and Godwin, who will probably be the point guard. Fleischer has been impressed with the team's hard work in practice.

Freehold Coach: Gerry Malavet, 16th season (fourth at Freehold). Record last season: 11-11 (7-5 in North, third). Returning starters: Zandra Vega PG, 5-2, 3.4 ppg), Zuhairah Perry 5-8, 5.5 ppg), Allison Hirsch 5-8, 2.6 ppg). Top newcomers: Danielle Korn 5-5), Ronit Kobrinski 5-6), Jenelle Ketcham 5-10); Melissa Henderson 6-2), Julie Hundertpfund 5-9). Outlook: Without Liz Scharpf, the Shore Conference's leading scorer the last two years, the Colonials' scoring will be more spread this year.

As a result, Malavet has made several changes in the offensive sets. Vega and Perry bring experience to a team that will greatly utilize its bench. Raritan Coach: Stephen Znaiden, 11th season. Record last season: 3-15 (3-9 in North, sixth). Returning starters: Alissa Daffan 5-7, 4.5 ppg), Laura Kirkpatrick 5-4, 4.6 ppg); Kristina Bannon 5-4, 5.9 ppg), Dina Ciambruschini 5-5, 6.9 ppg), Kelly DeCola 5-6, 8.0 ppg), Chrissa Roessner 5-4, 8.1 ppg).

Top newcomers: Marisa Alia 5-7); Melissa McNair 5-4). Outlook: The Rockets hope to run as much as possible, and will use a pressure defense to convert turnovers into points. Roessner buried 27 3-pointers last year and is battling Bannon for the point guard spot Kirkpatrick and Ciambruschini can also score from beyond the arc. Monmouth Coach: Kathy Fox, 20th season. Record last season: 5-13 (4-8 in North, fifth).

Returning starters: Jen Ross 5-8, 7.8 ppg), Cody Radcliffe 5-7, 4.5 ppg), Tamara Thomas 5-10, 2.5 ppg), Tanaya Yarborough 5-0, 5.6 PP6). Top newcomers: Latisa Harris PG, 5-2), Anna Shipman 5-6), Tara Thomas 5-8), Wesley Chunn 5-6), Kim O'Neill 5-8), Edel-traud Coleman 5-8). Outlook: The Golden Falcons will have a young but quick squad and will have more depth than in recent years. Led by "Skeeter" Yarbrough, the Falcons have several players who can shoot the three-pointer. On defense, Monmouth will do a lot of pressing Neptune Coach: Gerard O'Donnell, second season.

Record last season: 3-18 (2-10 in North, seventh). Returning starters: Nicole Porter 5-9, 64 ppg), Colleen McGee PG, 5-7, 3.3 ppg), Courtney Walsh 5-10, 2.0 ppg). Top newcomers: Maureen McCartney G. 5-9), Belinda Walls 5-9), Shanta Richardson 5-10), Amy Kress 5-6), Missy Martin 5-10). Outlook: Porter was the Scarlet Fliers' leading scorer in the second half of last season and will likely continue in that role.

McCartney could step in as the starting off guard. With a better turnout, O'Donnell looks for improvement in his second season. Outlook: The Lions always have an athletic team, and this year is no exception as they seek a third straight Class South title. Ziegler, an outside scorer, and Spiek, who averaged 8.5 rebounds last year, will have to carry the offense while the rest of the squad gains more experience. The Lions, though, will have to get through a difficult December schedule. Monsignor Donovan Coach: Mike Kozzl, ninth season. Record last season: 10-11 (9-3 in South, second).

Returning starters: Sharon McLellan 5-5, 1 1.1 ppg), Jess Smith 5-7, 9.0 ppg), Meredith Loffredo 5-9, 7.9 PPg). Taragh Maples 5-10, 3.4 ppg). Top newcomers: Kirsten Fleming PG, 5-2), Kerri Baxter 5-5), Stephanie Lorenzen 5-10), Melissa Webber 5-6), Jeannie McCafferty 5-5), Elizabeth Dougherty 5-6). Outlook: Barring injuries like they had last year, expect the Griffins to compete tor first place. McLellan is a solid guard with a good perimeter shot, while Smith is an active player who can also pass.

With a good blend of seniors and underclassmen, the Griffins' main asset will be their quickness. Central Coach: Vince Kelly, 14th season. Record last season: 7-13 (5-7 in South, tied for fourth). Returning starters: Melanie Bauman PG, 5-2, 6.0 ppg), Heather Swayze 5-7, 8.2 ppg), Kristy Tice 5-9, 6.2 ppg), Ina Bigelow 5-8, 6.4 ppg). Top newcomers: Kelly Honecker 5- 4), Becky Barrett 5-4), Jodi Po-plawski 5-3), Brianne Bruns 6- 0).

Outlook: Barrett will join the four returners in the starting lineup for what should be a contending team. Bauman is a highly re- farded point guard and will run the Golden agles' motion offense. Central hopes to turn around several close losses from a year ago. Pinelands Coach: Vincent Tralka, sixth season. Record last season: 14-11 (7-5 in North, third).

Returning starters: Kari Tomczyk 5-9, 14.2 ppg), Jen Sink PG, 5-6, 7.0 ppg), Jessica Bogart 5-11, 2.3 ppg), Jen Jones 5-10, 5.9 ppg), Dottie Koempel 5-4, 5.8 ppg). Top newcomers: Lacey Ryan G. 5-6). Melissa Kita 5-9), Joanna Overholt 5-6), Courtney Reedy 5-9), Janet McCullough 5-9), Jen Miller 5-6). Outlook: Tomczyk had an outstanding season last year, averaging 9.0 rebounds and providing the Wildcats with inside scoring.

Bogart returns after suffering a broken wrist, while Overholt is back after suffering a major knee injury. Sink has played well in the pre season and rarely makes mistakes. Wall Coach: Bob Ward, 14th season. Record last season: 10-12 (5-7 in South, tied for fourth). Returning starters: Beth English C.

5-10, 13.5 ppg), Rachele Repka 5-7, 3.9 ppg), Lauren Olsen PG, 5-3, 5.7 ppg), Vaile Trowbridge 5-7, 6.2 ppg). Top newcomers: Alison Manser F. 5-11); Abbey Ryan 5-7), Jen Kill- och 5-7), Jessica Ayers 5-8), Amy Campbell 5-6), Erin Kielty 5-9). Outlook: With two years left, Enslish al ready has the school record for rebounds and gives the Crimson Knights a dependable scorer. She also has 3-point range.

Wall has three other starters back as well as several players from last year's strong freshman year. The Knights will have more quickness and size than in recent years. Manchester Coach: Sweeney McKenna, 19th season. Record last season: 7-15 (4-8 in South, sixth). Returning starters: Coren Dapuzzo 5-5, 11.1 ppg), Donna Farrell PG, 5-5, 4.5 ppg), Katie Stoedter 5-9, 13.4 ppg).

Top newcomers: Dana Velardo 5-5), Nicole Rosatelle 5-5), Michelle Jorgensen 5-11), Amy Siebert 5-6), Crystal Allen 5-7), Jill Connolly 5-6), Kim Kohler 5-5). Outlook: The Hawks bring back two reliable scorers in Dapuzzo and Stoedter. Dapuzzo can drive and is an excellent free-throw shooter, while Stoedter is quick off the ball. She also made 114 steals last year. With an athletic team, McKenna will have his team run the floor for the first time in years.

Brick Memorial Coach: Judy DeFrancisci, second season. Record last season: 1-20 (0-12 in South, seventh). Returning starters: Maria Sarluca 5-7, 4.8 ppg), Jen Mackey 5-7, 6.3 ppg), Kelly Englebart 5-9, 7.9 ppg), Jackie Daly 5-7, 7.7 ppg); Jen Rueschlin 5-3, 2.5 Top newcomers: Amy Milroad 5-4), Megan Caggiano 5-8), Kasey Perjatel 5-8). Outlook: After starting two freshmen and one sophomore last year, the Golden Mustangs will still have a young squad this season as DeFrancisci plans to keep things basic. The scoring will be done by Englebart, a good athlete, and Daly.

Height will be a problem. gnor Donovan in the quarters, as well. All games will take place at Ocean County College. The Jim Ruhnke Award for contributions to the classic will be presented this year to Ocean County College dean of students Dr. Kenneth Kerr.

Dr. Kerr was instrumental in bringing the classic to the college 12 years ago. OCC continues to be the host site of the classic Rider University men's basketball coach Kevin Bannon gave an inspirational lecture to the 180 in attendance at yesterday's tip-off luncheon hosted by the Coach: John Natoli, second season. Record last season: 14-10 (7-5 In A North, tied tor third). Returning starters: Dena Morgan PG, 5-2, 13.0 ppg), Erica Wisniewski 5-4, 6.3 Linda Talarico 5-6, 5.0 ppg), Lauren Loggie 5-11, 7.3 ppg).

Top newcomers: Dana Lorenzonl 5-7); Jaime Mosery 5-3), Liz Wikoff 5-11), Rachel Biblow 5-11), Alison Kudlacik 5-7). Outlook: Morgan is the sparkplug of a lineup that lost just one starter; she led the Braves with 35 3-pointers last year and is adept at getting steals off the press. Lorenzonl was the first one off the bench last year and will join the starters. Loggie will give a quick Braves' team an inside presence. Freehold Township Coach: John Sciarappa, 14th season.

Record last season: 10-14 (7-5 In A North, tied for third). Returning starters: Tanna Mazza 5-10, 9.0 ppg), Maureen O'Connor 5-11, 15.3 ppg), Jia Leaphart PG, 5-4, 4.8 ppg Top lewcomers: Nese Posluk 5-7), Lindsay Warner (Fr 5-10); Megan O'Brien 5-8), Laura Scaler 5-11), Chris Randon 6-0), Margaret O'Connor 5-7), Rena Mazza 5-7). Outlook: Maureen O'Connor can certainly score her 35-point game against Shore last year was the season high in the Shore Conference. She can rebound as well, averaging 10.5 boards last year. With O'Connor and Mazza, who missed 10 games last season due to leg injuries, the Patriots will have a formidable frontcourt Middletown South Coach: Donna Bower, fifth season.

Top newcomers: Courtney Cecil 5-6), Claire Britton 5-6), Jenna Del-Sordi 5-7), Sam Strabel 5-8), Allison Doyle 5-3). Outlook: With most of last year's team gone, the Eagles may be hard-pressed to win a third straight Class A North title. Murtha, though, is a solid low-post player who can also hit the outside shot DelSordi is a trans-, fer from New Mexico and will add defense.

Ocean Coach: Jim Maliff, first year. Record last season: 9-13 (3-9 in A North, tied for fifth). Returning starters: Brooke Kelly 5-7, 13.4 ppg Kelly O'Keefe 5-9, 11.0 ppg), Kelly Olson 5-7, 2.5 ppg), Danielle Mirabal PG, 5-5, 5.1 ppg). Top newcomers: Dina Amato 5-8), Jennifer Egan 5-8), Paula Dellaluna 5-5), Liliana Lopez 5-2), Kathleen Nurthen 5-6), Jeanne Nurthen 5-6), Andrea Villapiano 5-3). Outlook: Maliff begins his first season with the varsity, having coached at the freshman and jayvee level at Ocean for the last nine years.

He has two solid players in Kelly and O'Keefe. Kelly nailed 31 3-pointers last year and can penetrate, while O'Keefe is a strong rebounder. Middletown North Coach: Ed Jones, 13th season. Record last season: 13-10 (10-2 in A North, second). Returning starters: Erin Monahan (Sr PG, 5-4, 5.7 ppg), Lisa Kostulius 5-5, 4.0 ppg).

Top newcomers: Susan Scheffler 5-8), Kathy Amato 5-8), Amy Gordon G. 5-4), Cheryl Nadeau 5-8), Kelly Monahan 5-4), Amy Werner 5-1), Alexis Jankowski (Fr 5-8). Outlook: The Lions will field a small, inexperienced lineup, but will also be quick. Monahan and Kostulius both return as good outside threats. Jones will emphasize defense as well as a fast-break brand of offense in utilizing his team's quickness.

Marlboro Coach: Mike Musante, third season. Record last season: 10-12 (3-9 in A North, tied for fifth). Returning starters: Laura Buckley 5-9, 8.5 ppg), Sarah Mergenthaler 5-6, 100 ppg), Kristen Gaffney PG, 5-5, 3.7 ppg), Chrissy Juliano 5-7, 2.0 PPS. Top newcomers: Christine Zubikowski 5-8); Colleen Powers 5-11), Jamie Verdee 5-7), Amy Weaver 5-5). Outlook: The Mustangs won their last four games last year and have four starters back.

Buckley will likely take over the scoring load, getting her points from the low post Mergenthaler, the best athlete on the team, can also provide scoring. The Mustangs wilt run as much as possible and get transition points. Howell Coach: Bob Harrigan, 15th season. Record last season: 4-15 (1-11 in A North, seventh). Returning starters: Stefanie Gachineiro 5-10, 8.0 ppg), Nicole Ruszczyk 5-10, 3.7 ppg), Stacy Dell PG, 5-3, 2.0 ppg), Assunda Miller 5-8, 3.1 ppg).

Top newcomers: Christine Boyler 5-8), Amiee Beauvais 5-8). Vicky Ivanov 5-10), Melissa Yanno 5-5), Annie Fay 5-11), Jackie Obrachta 5-9). Erin Caulfield 5-10), Kim Irving 5-10). Outlook: Among the Rebels hoping to rebound from an injury-plagued '94-95 season include Gachineiro and Ruszczyk. Dell returns at point guard, while Boyler will play point-forward after seeing action late last season.

Beauvais is another returner who saw significant playing time last year. TR North From page D5 Toms River South's Shannon Keelan and Lacey's Christa Ziegler both made the all-tournament team last year. Monmouth University coach Sue DeKalb was guest speaker at yesterday morning's breakfast, which was attended by all six teams. Mater Dei Coach: Kevin Attridge, 21st season. Record last season: 9-12, 5-7 North, tied tor 4th.

Returning starters: Allyson Stoll F. 5-8, 11.2 Laura Rounds (Jr 5-9, 11.3 Gina lasparro 5-5, 6.3 PPg)- Top newcomers: Kristine Grecco 5-7), Heather Kirby 5-10), Jill Judge 5-5), Amy Rice (Soph. 5-5), Liz Cozine 5-5), Megan Riddell 5-10). Outlook: The Seraphs will consist mainly of underclassmen. Those players, though, gained a valuable season of experience last year, Stoll and lasparro can both shoot from three-point range, while Rounds will try to give the Seraphs an inside game.

Keyport Coach: Tracy Allocco, first season (second overall). Record last season: 21-6, 9-3 North, 2nd. Returning starters: Alison Torrisi 5-11, 6.1 ppg), Jean-Marie Parzych 5-7, 5.6 ppg). Top newcomers: Shannon Terry 5-8), Anna Johnson 5-11), Katie Fre-drich PG, 5-6), Jen Dressier 5-10), Alissa Szaro (Fr 5-7), Kris Matec-jek 5-6). Outlook: Jen Carey and her 19.4 scoring average aren oacK, Dut tne Kea Haiders do return two starters Torrisi and Parzych from last year's team that won the Central Jersey Group I title and reached the Tournament of Champions.

Torrisi is a hard-working player, while Parzych can hit from outside. Terry did a solid job off the bench last year. hiiocco, a Keyport graduate, replaces Brian Brady as coach after spending last season coaching snore. Keansburg Coach: Brian Kmak, 1st year. Record last season: 12-11.

5-7 North. tied for 4th. Returning starter: Kelly Sorochen 5-10, 11.1 ppg). Top newcomers: Bethany Hagan 5-9), Sharon Curran 5-10), Melissa Guerin PG, 5-6), Sheila Hellwig 5-7), Louise Antonucci 5-10), Christine Simpson 5-8), Tina Anthony 6-0). Outlook: Kmak takes over the varsity after serving as the jayvee coach last year.

Most of last year's team is gone, including leading scorer Sandy Borgquist. Sorochen is a tough inside player with a good jumper. Anthony is a transfer from Matawan. Shore Coach: Don Brocklebank, 1st season. Record last season: 13-12, 8-4 North, 3rd.

Returning starters: None. Top newcomers: Holly Waterman 5-6), Caren Apicelli PG, 5-6), Leslie McMahon 5-9), Vanessa Plasteras 5-9), Maria Rollieri 5-7), Kelley McGee 5-9), Jessica Coleman 5-9), Erin Brown 5-7), Jessie Kit-tridge 5-2). Outlook: Brocklebank becomes the Blue Devils' fifth coach in the last five years. Unfortunately, this year's squad has no starters back from last season. Coleman, Waterman, Apicelli, McMahon and Rollieri appear to be the starters.

Brocklebank does have former Shore standout Heidi Waterman as jayvee coach. Point Pleasant Beach Coach: Mike Kostenko, fifth season. Record last season: 4-16, 1-11 North, 7th. Returning starters: Jen Woods 5-10, 6.1 ppg), Nicole Piccini 5-6, 5.5 ppg Beth Evanchik 5-2, 6.6 ppg). Top newcomers: Heather Zilai 5-4); Lauren Leach PG, 5-0); Amber Hart 5-6), Laura Flate 5-9), Maureen Hudak 5-8).

Outlook: Most of this year's team saw extensive playing time a year ago. While it's still a young team, the Garnet Gulls have developed into better basketball players.
