B4 The Pittsburgh Press Friday, April 5, 1985 METROOBITUARIES S. Fayette, parents study bus issue By Jim Cuddy Jr. James Underwood both of Latrobe, Thomas Underwood, of Jacksonville, and Charles Underwood of Orange Park, two sisters, Margaret Anderson of Latrobe and Eliza Jamison of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, two grandchildren; and 12 step-grandchildren. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at the M.S.

Hartman Funeral Home, 1500 Ligonier Latrobe. Services will be held 2 p.m. Mon- r-, a nl 1 uay ai we muiy vcii.c.ciy vuapci, R.D. 7, Latrobe. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery.

David Abadie dent hit her and three others. Miss Amend was admitted to St. Clair Memorial Hospital. The three other students were treated for minor injuries and released. South Fayette Police Chief Ted Villani declined to discuss the incident pending further investigation.

No charges have been lodged against the driver. Eleanor Amend said her daughter was one of a group of six students who decided to walk to school after the bus driver did not wait for the students to arrive at the bus stop. School officials identified the bus driver as Paulette Mollaneaur, an employee for about five years. She did not respond to queries from The Pittsburgh Press. Karr said today she would be reassigned.

Mrs. Amend and another parent, Linda Erickson, quoted their children as saying they were within about 10 feet of the bus when it pulled away. Only three of the more than 20 students who regularly catch the bus were able to board on time, Mrs. Erickson said. After cutting through a field to get to Old Oakdale Road, which has no sidewalks, the six children were offered a ride to the school by George Wheeler Jr.

of Washington. Wheeler told The Pittsburgh Press that two children had crossed the road, while the other remained on the roadside, when he saw a car coming up over a hill in the other lane. He said the four children attempted to climb a barbed wire fence to escape the oncoming car. "Instead of hitting the car, she hit the kids," Mrs. Amend said.

"My daughter flew in the air and bounced off the windshield. They operated on her last night and she has a cast from her toes to her hip." Administrative Assistant John Marcischak, who oversees South Fayette's transportation program, said the bus driver was already late when she pulled up at the Morgan project. Mrs. Erickson said she learned that school officials had warned the children three times about being late lor the bus. But she and others complained that parents had not been notified of the problem.

"What's the good of running a schedule if nobody's on the bus?" asked Mrs. Erickson, a former school bus driver in Ellwood, Ind. "I used to go ISO miles a day and I wasn't always on schedule. "But my kids were always on the bus and they were safe." The Pittsburgh Press South Fayette School District officials met today with about 50 parents of children from the Morgan housing project, including the parents of four children who were hit by a car after they missed the school bus. The parents claimed, and school officials confirmed today, that the bus driver bypassed more than 20 students Wednesday morning, including the four children who were hit by a car on Old Oakdale Road as they walked to South Fayette Junior and Senior High School.

Marcelette Pace, president of the Morgan Tenants Council, said the parents were generally pleased with today's meeting. The parents, however, will form a committee with school and bus drivers' union officials-to further discuss problems at the bus stop. School officials said yesterday the students previously had been warned about tardiness. Superintendent Joel Carr said the parents' allegations are being investigated. Kandee Amend, 12, of 12C Morgan Drive, suffered a broken leg when a car driven by an unidentified Chartiers Valley High School stu Donald R.

McLennan Donald Roderick McLennan former vice president and director of a Chicago-based insurance brokerage, died of pneumonia yesterday at his home in Ligonier, Westmoreland County. Mr. McLennan, 77, was a native of Chicago, where he began his career with the family-founded Marsh McLennan Inc. In 1941, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific as an intelligence officer. After World War II, Mr.

McLennan returned to his position with Marsh McLennan in Chicago. He was transferred to the firm's Pittsburgh office in 1959, where he worked until his retirement in 1972. He was a 1931 graduate of Yale University, where he was a member of the Scroll and Key Society. Surviving are his wife, Elinor, three daughters, Alexandra and Deborah, both of Boston, and Courtney of New York City; a brother, William L. of Wake Forrest, and two granddaughters.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in St. Michael of the Valley Episcopal Church, Rector, Westmoreland County. The family requests no visitation. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Underwood, of Saxman Drive Extension, also was a founding member of the Latrobe Civic Club, a lifetime member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church and a member of the Rolling Rock Club in Ligonier. Surviving are her husband, James two daughters, Alice Sevareid of Swarthmore, Delaware County, and Caroline Throssell of Helena, four step-children, Ann Potts and Laws from page Bl David Abadie, 29, a shop supervisor for Quigley died Tuesday in West Penn Hospital of injuries suffered Feb. 18 in an accident at the Edgar Thomson Works of U.S.

Steel Corp. Mr. Abadie, of Inwood Road, Traf ford, was the third death caused when molten steel came in contact with water at the mill. A 1977 graduate of Duquesne University, Mr. Abadie was a member of St.

Regis Church, the Pittsburgh Musical Society and St. John Kampy Lodge. He is survived by his parents, Emil C. and Amelia Zyhowski Abadie of Wilkinsburg; a sister, Elaine Schweickert of Trafford; and two brothers, John E. of Mars, Butler County, and Michael of Trafford.

Deaths elsewhere Matthews said a state statute called the Criminal Identification Law prevented him from warning the seven or eight parehtsJ who; called his office in the last 18 months about Shallenberger.

Connellsville police Captain Stanley Welsh said under the law states "we cannot release criminal records of people unless someone applies for them. They have to apply for the records and give a reason why they want them." Instead, Matthews directed them to an article about Shallenberger in The Pittsburgh Press on May 21, 1978, called "Confessed Molester Stars in Theater Camp Mystery." "If parents would allow their children to go on a trip with this man after hearing something like in Moon. The judge also stipulated that he would "discontinue any rela-tonship with children." In November 1961, Shallenberger was charged and given a suspended sentence on similar charges in Palo Alto, Calif. Shallenberger's record of offenses against children led to the cancellation in May 1978 of a project summer theater school for youngsters at California State College, now California University of Pennsylvania. Marilyn Fitzsimmons, director of the Fayette County Children and Youth Services said her office cannot give out any information about any of its cases.

"I can't even tell you if I've ever heard of the man you're talking about," Mrs. Fitzsimmons said. "Our information is strictly confidential." At the state Bureau of Consumer Protection office in Harrisburg, Director Mike Pekula said his office can tell consumers only about fraud or deception in a business, not about the criminal history of its owners. "We have no knowledge of those kinds of criminal charges," Pekula said. "We provide information only about charges we've taken action on.

"We don't want to create an expectation that we have all the information on every business in the commonwealth. Consumers should get information about child molesting from the police." that, there must be something wrong with them." According to Connellsville police, 'Shallenberger is charged with corrupting the morals of a minor, indecent exposure and indecent assault in connection with an alleged incident involving a foreign exchange student from the Netherlands. Shallenberger has been charged with sexual assault on young boys at least twice before in 1975 for an incident at a talent camp he sponsored on the Moon campus of Robert Morris College and in 1961 for an incident in California. Shallenberger was placed on three years' probation by Common Please Judge Nathan Schwartz after he pleaded guilty in December 1975 to molesting a 12-year-old boy Sara G. Gatz, 90, former Oakland resident; in Teaneck, N.J., of a heart attack.
