To enter a college In 1SS3 and now, thirty-one years later, to graduate from that college is the experience of E. J. McVann, manager of the traffic bureau of the Omaha Commercial club. No, McVann Is not especially thickheadedat least he has not been found so by those who havo had to oppose him when ho ts fighting proposed Increases in freight rates.

But like many another boy ho ran out of money back in the '60s and had to quit the college- before he finished. Mr. McVann came to Omaha from his home In Cedar Rapids, as a boy of 16 and entered Crelghton college thirty years ago. He was to graduate from the academic course In 1SS5, Before that date came, however, the school raised Its general standard so that his class could not graduate until 1SS3. Ilans Ont of Money.

McVann was out of money. Three years more was too much. He packed his little grip and went back to Cedar Rapids, where he got a job to hold body and soul together. School dropped clear out of his mind for a number of years. Finally he came to Omaha again to work.

and after some time again went east. Now for some years he has been In Omaha, first as an employe pf the railroads and later as manager of the traffic bureau. At odd times between fighting the rate cases for the Omaha Commercial Interests he has taken law at the Crelghton university at night or In daytime, Just as his time fitted In best. On April SO when the diplomas are handed out E. J.

McVann Is to rsrelvo a diploma from the law school and the degree of bachelor of laws. Thee admit him to the bar In the state of Nebraska. He will continue to be manager Of the traffic bureau, although he expects to practice law also in Omaha. While Mr. McVann Is receiving his diploma his son Donald, aged 18, will Just be completing his freshman year In the Crelghton High school.

Mr. McVann Is president of the Pan Alumni association. Father Hysterical Over Son's Illness Fearing that his 2-year-old son Wllber might not recover from an illness for which he was being treated at a local hospital caused W. I. Wiser of Auburn.

Jonas and McClanahan, and tho possibility of its death had preyed on the father's mind till ho temporarily lost control of himself. After being treated, for his hysteria and learning that the child was Improving Wiser became quiet and rational again. Mrs. Wiser Is also at the hospital with her husband and son.
