Asbury Park Nov. 13, 1983 A43 Obituaries U.S. envoy, leader of junta return to homes after talks James Cunningham, died in car crash BRICK TOWNSHIP James J. Cunningham, 55, was killed Friday when the car he was driving struck a utility pole. Mr.

Cunningham was an assistant manager at Merck Rahway. Prior to that, he worked at Chemical Bank, Westchester, N.Y., for 27 years. He retired in 1976. He was born in New York City. He lived in Oradell before moving here three years ago.

He was a communicant at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, Manasquan. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Dumont, and the Chamber of Commerce of Ossining, N.Y. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, the former Peggy Gibson, and two daughters, Carmel Anne Cunningham and Patricia B. Tehan, both Baltimore, Md. The Robert C. Neary Funeral Home, Manasquan, is in charge of arrangements. Stone's proposal that the Sandinista gov- eminent open discussions with U.S.-backed rebels operating from bases in Honduras and Costa Rica.

The Reagan administration claims it is supporting the rebels in an effort to stop Nicaragua from aiding leftist guerrillas in El Salvador. Stone told reporters after his meeting with Ortega that he went to Managua to express support for the Contadora Group's goal of "peace and democracy" in Central America. There were these reports of battle ac- tions and political violence in El Salvador I and Guatemala: Salvadoran rebels attacked the village of San Lorenzo, 35 miles east of San Salva- dor, killing two soldiers and wounding four in fighting that ended early Saturday, military sources said. Gasser retired in 1970 as foreman of the Julius Smith Rubber West Paterson, where he worked many years. He was born in Paterson and lived there before moving here in 1972. He was a member of Whiting Chapter 2628, American Association of Retired Persons; Fire Prevention Patrol and Residents' Club of Crestwood Village; Whiting Bible Church; Printers Union 195, Paterson; Pompton Hamilton Lodge 246, Pompton Lakes, and the Manchester Deborah Chapter. The Associated Press A NICARAGUAN LEADER and a special U.S. envoy returned to their home bases yesterday after separate tours of Central American capitals failed to bring the war-scarred region closer to peaceful solutions. Daniel Ortega, the coordinator of Nicaragua's Sandinista junta, flew back to Managua yesterday afternoon and said he had tried to rally support against "the real threats" of a U.S. invasion of his country. He said the four presidents he visited Miguel de la Madrid of Mexico, Luis Herrera Campins of Venezuela, Belisario Betancur of Colombia and Ricardo de la Espriella of Panama expressed their opposition to an invasion of Nicaragua and concern over the growing tensions in the region.

Those four countries form the Contadora Group, which is seeking regional solutions to the conflicts. Richard Stone, President Reagan's special envoy, made no public statements on his return to Washington. He visited five Central American capitals and the Contadora members. Mr. Place formerly worked at Adamas Carbide Kenilworth. He retired 23 years ago. He was born in Canada and lived in Kenilworth before coming here 23 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Kathryn Blahut, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Baldwin was a self-employed car cleaner. He was born in Long Branch and lived here most of his life.

Mrs. Donovan, a former resident of Dover Township, was born in Andover, and lived most of her life in West Orange. She moved to Dover Township in 1963 and here nine years ago. She was a communicant at St. Justin's Roman Catholic Church, Toms River.

Rooney worked at Jersey City Medical Center for 17 years before retiring in 1959. She was born in New York City and lived most of her life in Jersey City. She moved here in 1963. She was a member of the Toms River Senior Citizens' Club and Lady Guards of East Dover, Dover Township. Her husband, John, died in 1952.

Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Whyte, here, and Grace Dugan, Rahway; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Anderson Campbell Funeral Home, here, is in charge of arrangements. WILBUR A. SISKO POINT PLEASANT Wilbur A. Sisko, 77, a retired carpenter, died yesterday at home.

Mr. Sisko worked at Exxon Linden, for 41 years. He retired in 1962. He was born in Dupont, Pa. He lived in Westfield before moving here 18 years ago.

He was a deacon and trustee of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Durand Lodge 179, and the Old Guard, both here. Surviving are his wife, the former Jane I. Clarke; four sons, Michael, Woodbine, William, Plainfield, Thomas, Orlando, and James Wilde, Freehold; a daughter, Lois Stevens, Fort Lauderdale, and a brother, Joseph, Melbourne, Fla. EDNA M. RICHARDS MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. Edna Marie Richards, 85, died Thursday at Mount Vernon Hospital. Mrs. Richards was born in New York City and lived there before moving here.

She was a volunteer for various churches and organizations here. She was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. Her husband, John J. predeceased her.

Surviving are a son, John J. New Rochelle; a daughter, Marie Paligano, Ocean Township, N.J.; two sisters, Ida Doyle, Pelham, and Elizebeth Enright, Pittsfield, and eight grandchildren. Joerg was born in Newark. She lived in Hillside for 18 years before moving here in 1968. She was a member of Gloria Chapter 159, Order of the Eastern Star, and Holiday Stars at Silverton. She was a former member of Trinity Reformed Church, Newark. Her husband, Joseph died in 1982.
