Hohos, pastor of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church on the South Side for 36 years before retirement this month, died Friday at Mercy Hospital. He was 74. Born at Kysucke Nove Mesto, Slovakia, Father Hohos came to the United States in 1920 with his family and settled in Tarentum. He attended St.

Fidelis Seminary in Herman, Butler County, and St Vincent's Seminary in Latrobe, Westmoreland County. He was ordained June 16, 1935. Father Hohos' first assignment was as assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in Pine Creek, and later he became assistant and pastor of St. Florian Church in United, Westmoreland County, before being named pastor at St.

Matthew's in 1948. He was district chaplain of the First Catholic Slovak Union for Pittsburgh and served on the literary committee of the National Slovak Society. Father Hohos was a charter member of the John Kollar Slovak Literary Society. He was a former district chaplain of the First Catholic Slovak Union in Greensburg and for the Slovak Catholic Sokols in Pittsburgh. He served two terms as supreme chaplain for the Slovak Catholic Circle headquarters in Passaic, N.J.

Surviving are two brothers, Jo-. seph A. of Falls Church, and Edward J. of Penn Hills, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends are being received from noon to 9 p.m.

Hilda M. Kern Hilda M. Kern of Wilkins Township, a retired employee of West-inghouse Air Brake who was active for many years in the Order of Eastern Star, died Friday at East Suburban Hospital in Monroeville. Formerly of North Versailles, Mrs. Kern, 76, was a member of Old Glory Eastern Star Lodge 270; Wilson Memorial Court 40, and past mother adviser of Old Glory Assembly 139, all of McKeesport.

She is survived by two sons, Ed-, mond M. Kern of McKeesport and Robert R. Smith of Wilkins Township; two sisters, Anna Turner, who lives in California, and Elsie Kern of North Versailles; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. George E. Criswell George E. Criswell, 66, of Whitehall, a retired trolley operator for Port Authority Transit, died Friday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in East Liberty. Mr. Criswell, who retired in 1977, was an active member of the St.

Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Rev. Louis P. Hohos South Side pastor 36 years M. Louise Brettholle M. Louise Brettholle, a lifelong resident of Carnegie, died yesterday in St.

Clair Memorial Hospital. Miss Brettholle, 80, of 400 Fifth was formerly employed by U.S. Steel Corp. as a secretary. She is survived by a brother, Fred J.
