1 rating Monday in balloting by UPI's Board of Coaches. The undefeated Longhorns. fresh from lassoing Oklahoma 34-14 last Saturday, jumped from the No. 3 rating to overtake Penn State, which remained in the No. 2 spot.

Texas received 23 first-place votes and accumulated 608 points from the 42 coaches who comprise UPI's board. The Nittany Lions, who improved to 4-0 with a 37-7 rout of Boston College, received the remaining 19 first- place votes and totaled 600 points. Southern Cal. which suffered a 13-10 upset to unheralded Arizona, slipped to No. 6 after holding down the top spot for three weeks, the longest stay at the top for any team this year.

Pittsburgh, 4-0. inched up to No. 3 with 547 points after a 17-0 victory over previously undefeated West Virginia. North Carolina, a 48-10 winner over Wake Forest despite playing without tailback Kelvin Bryant, improved to No. 4.

7 Clemson. No. 8 Missouri. No. 9 Georgia and No.

Goshen Claims Top AA Ranking INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) Goshen replaced Franklin Central as the No. 1 team in this week's ratings of Class AA Indiana high school football teams by the UPI board of coaches. Carmel and Lawrenceburg remained the top outtits in the other two divisions. Franklin Central had held down the AA top spot.most of the season until stumbling last week to No.

10 Pike. The Flashes were demoted to seventh in this week's poll with Pike eighth. Pike has a 5-2 record but boih losses were forfeits of previously won contests. The top four teams in the AA ratings each moved up one notch with Goshen first, followed by Delta. Jasper and New Haven.

Goshen polled only three first-place votes to tour each for Delta and Jasper, but edged Delta, I05-1U4. in total points. New Haven got the other first-place nod. The top 10 in Class AAA consisted of the same teams from a week ago with some reshuffling. However, the top three Carmel.

South Bend St. Joseph's and Hobart held those positions. Lafayette and Martinsville swapped places with the Broncos taking fourth and the Artesians fifth. Fort Wayne Snider moved up one notch to sixth after knocking off city rival Dwenger. Lawrenceburg continues to hold a slim edge over Hamilton Southeastern in the Class A voting.

Lawrenceburg grabbed seven first- place votes and 115 total points to Hamilton's five first-places and 113 points. Tippecanoe Valley. West Noble and North Judson remain third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Sheridan moved up one spot to sixth. Knightstown did likewise to seventh, while Brownstown slipped from sixth to eight.
