Cardboard Craftsman (j ft jjjf "I i i-j Jm I Siir 1 I i 4 7 'A High-school senior Ocie Beacham, 19, and a jet plane he designed and constructed of cardboard, a material that's cheap and easily obtained. Model planes have fascinated the Birmingham, teen-ager since he was 9 and he's made more than 200, some of which are shown above. Beacham spends most of his free time drawing and constructing model planes. Although he's had no formal training, his models are almost to perfect scale, complete with windows and markings. He's hoping for a scholarship to an aviation technology school.
