Three targets, one bearing a perfect 100 score and the others with scores of 99, were posted in the borough police station. The sharpshooting test was made Wednesday, when, it is said. Chief Winrick hit two .22 caliber shells thrown 12 feet into the air. state. Alabaster vases and dishes were evidently also manufactured on the spot in very large quantities. This quarry probably provided the fine quality gypsum plaster use at Sakkara, but none of the fine alabaster vases which were in such numbers on this site have yet been discovered in the tombs of the old kingdom. The so-called alabaster vases known from this period are of different and inferior material. What was the purpose and the destination of these fine vases remains for the moment a mystery.

Remains of the stone circle shelters used, by the workmen are found nearby. These are the earliest dated examples, of the structures yet found in Egypt. It it possible to see where the fires of the workmen have blackened the roofs of the shelters which they made by under-cutting the soft sandstone. The circular rock-cut basins which they used still drip water over the scarp edge. EASY now' to get rid roaches.

United Press StafT Writer. Dallas. May 11. Ultra-dry Democrats of Texas, who bitterly oppose the nomination of Gov. Al Smith, of New York, for president, moved rapidly yesterday to prevent a rumored coalition between the moderately dry harmony faction and the Smith forces.

George C. Purl, a leader of the ultra-drys. sent a telegram to Lynch C. Davidson, of the harmony forces, inviting the harmony group to unite with the ultra-drys to instruct Texas' 40 delegates to the national Democratic convention at Houston next month against the New York governor and any other wet candidates. Such a coalition would make it certain that Texas' 40 votes would be available at Houston for any dark horse dry candidate capable of uniting the delegations opposed to Smith.

AIM FOR SHOWDOWN. Neither the harmony faction, led by the youthful Governor Dan Moody, or the ultra-dry faction, led by Thomas B. Love, former national committeeman, will be assured of control of the state Democratic convention at Beaumont May 22 without the aid of uninstructed delegates known to favor Smith. A coalition of Moody's forces and the delegates favoring Smith would assure success to the harmony group's desire to instruct the Texas delegation for a dry party plank and a candidate in accord with such a plank. On the assumption that the harmony program for a "candidate in accord with such a plank" would eliminate Smith, the ultra-drys hope to force a showdown with the governor's forces.

They apparently believe the showdown would cause embarrassment to Governor Moody, who is very dry personally, if he declined to unite with them in opposing the nomination of Smith. SILENT ABOUT SMITH. It has been rumored in political circles that the instructions to the Texas delegation proposed by Governor Moody's harmony faction would permit Texas' delegation to vote for Smith, should Smith agree to a dry plank in the Democratic platform. However, the harmony forces have remained silent on this point, clinging to their statement that' they favor any candidate in accord with a dry platform. No reply to the telegram to the harmony forces had been received last night by the leaders of the ultra -drys.

A statement is expected from Governor Moody or Davidson today. 1 4 York would pave tne way, lawyers believe, for a successful effort to have Blackmer extra dieted and returned from France to face trial. FACES S200.000 FINE. Blackmer faces fines aggregating $200,000 for his refusal to return to this county and testify at the Teapot Dome trial. The state department has confiscated his passport, leaving his travel alternatives France and the United States.

Senator Nye said today he thinks there is enough probability that Blackmer violated the New York law in engineering the Continental deal to warrant an investigation by the New York authorities. At the time of the Continental deal, from which Blackmer made a $750,000 profit, he was president of the Midwest Refining virtually all of whose stock is owned by the Standard Oil of Indiana. NOT RESPONSIBLE. Standard Oil of Indiana also owned a half interest in one of the companies from which the Continental "squeezed" its $3,080,000 profit. John D.

who has just requested Col. Robert W. Stewart to resign as head of the Indiana Standard, took the position before the senate public lands committee that Blackmer was not "legally or morally" justified in engineering a deal to make a profit at the partial expense of the Indiana Standard while the chief executive of a subsidiary. The offense of Blackmer in failing to answer a summons to appear at the Teapot Dome trial and his failure to make an income tax return on his share of the Continental profits, for which efforts are reported under way to have him indicted, are not covered by the terms of the extradition convention with France, according to lawyers.
