Saving Of Truck Mileage Asked Although production of crops in the Lubbock district exceeded all expectations in 1944, transportation of 1945 crops and farm products poses even more serious difficulties unless further efforts are made to reduce and conserve trucking mileage, N. F. Nelson, district manager of the Office of Defense Transportation, said Saturday, Cooperative plans have been worked out in areas of the Missouri-Kansas-Oklahoma-Arkansas- Texas-Louisiana. region of the ODT to save 15,611,295 miles of truck operations a year through cooperative dairy industry, plans and 22,281,661 miles a year through livestock industry plans. Savings Listed Of the dairy industry plan sayings are 124,520 truck year in the Lubbock ODT district.

The greatest harvest of agricultural products ever produced by the American farmer--livestock, poultry, milk, fruit, vegetables, grains, etc. was successfully moved during 1944 from producing areas without any loss due to lack of trucking transportation, the Highway Transport department of ODT Washington has announced. Moreover, the ODT stated, the job was accomplished with less manpower and equipment than that available in previous years and with reductions in mileage amounting to more than 683 million truck miles a year. Agricultural products produced during 1944, the ODT pointed out, included such record breaking totals: as 155 million head of livestock, 119 billion pounds of milk, million tons of commercial truck crops and the harvest of over 97 million acres of corn and 110 million acres of wheat, oats, rice and soybeans, These products required transportation farm or to the market. Manpower, equipment and tire shortages will be increasingly felt Do They Call You OLD MAN! Why feel old at 40, 60 or morewhy be the victim of the older years? The merchants who have sent telegrams have protested on basis that parking meters have been a benefit in Lubbock information received by the chamber of commerce indicates.

this the year because of inductions into armed forces, the steadily advancing age and deterioration of trucks and trailers, and the tread worn condition of larger numbers of heavy duty tires, Neison said. Less manpower and reduced number of older trucks, he emphasized, will be available to haul approximately the same, and in some products, larger tonnages than were hauled in 1944. The War Food administration 1945 production goals call for the planting and harvesting of 300 million acres of cultivated crops and 64 million acres of hay, Increases are being sought in the acreage of wheat, flax, rye, sugar beets, sugar cane, tomatoes and the same high level of production is looked for in the production of milk, eggs, soybeans, dry beans, cotton and vegetables for processing. It is also expected that 135 million head of livestock will be slaughtered. The .1944 savings in agricultural trucking milcages were achieved through the formation of agricultural industry plans, through increased utilization of trucking facilities and through reductions in gasoline allotments.
