Burgess, 20, Rocky Mount, N.C., and a 16-year-old Rocky Mount Juvenile were arrested Thursday afternoon in Renwick by Humboldt County Sheriffs Deputies Dick Jergens and Ed Allen. The sheriff's office was acting on information from Renwick Marshal Gale Lowe and other informers that the youths were in the area and had firearms in their possession. When officers stopped the trio they discovered over 250 pounds of freshly-harvested marijuana in the trunk of the late model Ford Fairlane driven by Pergande. The youths were apparently bound for North Carolina, where Pergande is away without leave from Marine Camp LeJuene, according to Deputy Sheriff Dick Jergens. The youths waived preliminary hearing in mayor's court and were bound over to district court, with bond fixed at $5,000 each.

Authorities indicate they will be arraigned Monday morning on charges of violation of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of concealed weapons. Two hand guns and a 10-inch butcher knife, apparently used to harvest the marijuana, were found in the auto. Authorities said the substance tested positively on a field indicator drug test. It was harvested from a large patch near Renwick in Wright County which authorities say will be destroyed soon. Hot fun in the summertime Detasseling crews moved into northwest Iowa cornfields this week and encountered a little mud as they did.

Two Fort Dodge girls working for DeKalb, Pat Crimmins, left, 14, and Sue Cramer, 15, display the results after a few rounds through fields which were drenched by heavy rains late Sunday and early.
