Her maternal grandfather, Mr. W. H. Hardy, was the first American child born in Oakland. Mr.

Garrett is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lucien Garrett of Berkeley and attended the University of California. He is connected with General Motors in Southern California. Miss Maddox will graduate from the University of California in May and is not planning to, be married until the early Fall.

Bradley Will Take Place April 18 By SUZETTE Among outstanding weddings of April will be that of Miss Katherine Connick and Mr. Philip Read Bradley Jr. on the evening of April 18, in the home of the bride-elect's parents, Mr.

J. R. Cunningham and Mrs. Thomas were hostesses at luncheon at the Floyd home in honor of Miss Connick On Saturday, Mrs. Donald Kieffer was hostess at the Women's Athletic Club for Miss Connick, -and Miss Phyllis Fay Mahon, betrothed of Mr.

Joseph Hilton Wadsworth now at Fort Ord. The date is not determined as yet for the latter's marriage. Miss Betty Poetz gave a breakfast party on Saturday morning for Miss Connick in Berkeley. Miss Connick was a student at Anna Head's before entering the University of California, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha tar Sorority. Mr.

Bradley is a Theta son Philip Read Bradley of San Francisco and like his fiancee, was graduated from the University of California. Shower for Bride-to-Be Miss Helen Morrow was entertained recently at a luncheon and lingerie shower at the Claremont Hotel. The hostesses for the noon were Mrs. Malcolm Bell and Miss Ruth Elick. Those attending the luncheon, which was followed by bridge, were Misses Marilyn Smith, Ruth Orme; Mesdames Clem Ellersen, George Gillem, Stan Cowell, Ed Fortin, Hermann, Markstein, Tom Sorensen, Adelphi Mitchell and Bert Elick.

Mrs. Bell and Miss Elick will atattend Miss Morrow Saturday when she will become the bride of 1 Mr. Robert Haslam at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakland. The bride-elect's sister, Mrs.

Tom Sorensen, will be matron of honor and her daughter, Joan Sorensen, will be flower girl. Mr. Robert Hansen is to be best man for Mr. Haslam. The ushers are Messrs.

Lieutenant Dickey, now stationed at the Presidio, is the son of Mr. and Mrs.

Laurence Winant Dickey of Berkeley and was a of the class of 1939 at the University. He is a member of Upsilon fraternity and was captain of the rugby team. Other societies in which he holds a membership are Skull and Keys and Winged Helmet. Engagement Is Announced Mr. and Mrs.

John Clark Henry of Alameda announced today the engagement of their daughter, Miss Jean Elizabeth Henry, Francis S. Smith, accompanying the news with word that the wedding wil take place Saturday at St. Philip Neri's Church in the Island city. The wedding service will take place at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Miss Mary Suzanne Henry will be maid of honor for her sister; a small cousin, Harriet Henry, will be flower girl and Mr.

John Clark Henry will attend as best man for Mr. Smith. Miss Henry was graduated from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Health Talk for Voters League Mrs. George Howard Hoxie discussed the question of "A League Program" at today's meeting of Berkeley League of Women Voters. In this talk, Mrs. Hoxie spoke on the questions which the league must face, "Federal Responsibility Health" and "Health Insurance," both of which were placed on the program of the last National convention. She also spoke on conditions here in California and the need for some sort of action.

Before coming to California, Mrs. Hoxie was regional director of six Central States for the National League: was a member of the National Board of Directors for six years, then president of the Missouri League. Later, she was chairman of the Child Welfare division of the Missouri League, which included health problems as well as child welfare. She is author of "Public Health Organization" -R history of the public health movement, Mrs. Leffler Miller, chairman of the Berkeley public health study group, presided."
