No teacher in the state will make less than $18,500, effective this year, according to a compromise bill being worked out just hours before the Legislature meets in a special session.

Gov. Kean's office has been busy bargaining on a package that would recognize outstanding teachers and set a salary floor expected to have a ripple effect up the steps of the pay scale. Earlier this month, the state board voted to "approve the termination" of the sending-receiving relationship between the Brielle and Manasquan school districts. But local school board members are questioning whether they are required to proceed with the transfer.

Brielle school officials, citing crowded conditions at Manasquan High School, voted 7 to 2 two years ago to seek state approval for the transfer. Rail commuters delayed again By BILL GYVES Press Asbury Park Bureau THIRTY-FIVE Brielle ninth-graders will attend Manasquan High School for their first day of classes next Wednesday, and within hours the state Board of Education is expected to decide whether the students should remain there or be transferred to Point Pleasant Beach High School. While they await the state board's ruling, administrators in the three school districts involved have developed scenarios on how they expect the decision to affect them. School administrators in Brielle and Point Pleasant Beach said yesterday they do not believe the quality of education provided for their students will be severely affected, regardless of the state beard's decision. The top school official in Manasquan, however, has indicated a transfer of Brielle students to Point Pleasant Beach will have a significant impact in her school district. Lynch Boys.
