We talked at Jengu. (Ixirose came to the rescue our wagon developed a trouble past and Ixbrose put up her instant thanks again). we learned that Darlene Weidner will graduate on Sunday, May 16, from Boston Methodist Seminary and will now serve her first church. The Methodist church is located in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Her son W.W.

Weidner and her daughter Sharilyn Weidner Kelloy will fly to Boston to be with her on graduation Sunday. Darlene spent her childhood years in the Geronimo community. Congratlations from us all. This past week we had the opportunity to talk with Ellie Krueger as she attended the Friedens Church Mother-Daughter banquet. She was the guest of her daughter-in-law Nancy Krueger and her sister Evelyn Meyer.

Ellie, too, has many tics to the Geronimo community. Funcral services were conducted for Rueben, her husband, on April 14 at the Cross United Church of Christ in Seguin. The Rev. Ernie Dean, his beloved pastor, conducted the service and his meditation was titled "The Heart of Life is Christ." The Krugers have been near neighbors to the Cross Church since 1955. Rueben had been a member of the Seguin Volunteer Fire Department since 1948.

Rueben enjoyed a try at different carcers that included farming, but his leaning towards building developed when for a number of years he put up grain bins for the Martin Steger Supply Co. of Seguin. Rueben traveled all over the state al that time. He was among the carpenter crew that helped build the Friedens Church Parish House in 1942, while the Rueben Krueger family were members of the church. In 1978, together with close friends and family, Opa Krueger built Wayman and Nancy's home.

He was also a member of the building crew that put up the Geronimo Volunteer Fire Department Station in 1988. Rueben Waymann Krueger was born to Charles and Alina Dolle Krueger in Aug. 27, 1915 in Guadalupe County. He was baptized Sept. 18, 1916 and confirmed April 13, 1930, both in Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin.

On April 12, 1941 Rueben married Ellie Clara Schuenemann. They were blessed with one son, Wayman. Survivors besides Ellie and Wayman are daughter-in-law Nancy and grandchildren Westley and Macgan; brother, Gilbert and wile Lorine; sister, Ida Winsauer and husband Albert; sister, Nola Naumann. The burial rites were conducted in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park by Rev. Dean.

Pallbearers were: Raymond Heckman, Marvin Wesuneyer, Billy Belcher, Milton Malike, Edgar Grimm and Kenneth Fort. After the services, relatives and friends were invited by the family to the Friedens Church activity center for an bour of hospitality. L.E. (Photo courtesy Leon Studios) News of five-year-old old important By Terry Chavez Staples is a small town settled by longtime residents and some new ones. People get to know people on a first name basis. Whether they are young or old, their lives are just as important as anyone else's. That's why when little five-yearold Allison Ralcy came to me with her news, I decided to write it in our column. Allison said that they had found a small red bird and her cousin Serena Nelson was taking care of it because it couldn't fly.

She was afraid that if they let it loose, the cats would eat it. For Allison's sake, we all hope the little bird makes it just fine. On Saturday, May 1, Diana Locke celebrated a birthday. Her husband Butch Locke wishes her the best of all worlds. He said, (quote) "I'm a very lucky man to have found such a great lady.

Happy Birthday, Di!" On April 29, Bon Lowman went to Del Rio to visit his daughter, Linda Henson and family. He had a nice time, but had to come back home Sunday, May 2. The "Five Forty-five Afternoon Mrs. Dibrell Waldrip STAPLES NEWS Walking Club" wishes to invite anyonc interested in walking two miles a day to come and join them. Every afternoon the group chooses a different route to walk.

The group meets at 5:45 p.m. at Charlotte Nobles' home. For more information, contact Charlotte Nobles or Ann May Burncy. The jet set couple, Marcus and Snooky Allen are back from another trip. Last week they went to Bay Cliff and had a few days of sightseeing.

They had to cut their trip short because Snooky got sick, but she's doing much better now. Congratulations to first grader Travis Salmon, son of Rocky and Darlenc Salmon, for winning the "most original" decorated lunch box at the De Zavala's Texas Day Celebration on April 30. His grandparents Charlotte and Lloyd Nobles are very proud of him. Sunday Staples got one inch of rain and pea-sized hail. But the rain didn't come until late in the afternoon.

By then people had already had their Mother's Day barbecue and were ready to call it quits. I'd like to dedicate this pocm made to all the moms in and around the Staples area. Mother's Day for me is everyday. This is especially for my mom, Dominga Padron. You're the first one that I turn to When my world is all a mess, For the shoulder that I cry on Is yours by far the best.

A hug from you is one to cherish For I could never get enough, Cause raising my own family Is really, oh so tough. I will always, always need you So please be there again, Cause these praises that 1 sing to you Come sincerely from within. At times I make you mad And then in doubt of me you'll be, But remember, mom, 1 truly love you Cause you mean the world to me. good and the attendance was good, especially for Mother's Day when so many visit with their mothers and other relatives out of town. Our guest speaker was a membership minister from the Rev.

Kenneth McIntyre's church in San Antonio. He delivered a spiritual message. Later Sunday evening, the officers of the church met with one of the ministers that some of the members are interested in as a pastor. Next week they will interview another minister that is on the list. We are praying when everything is finished that we will get a man that God will be pleased with.

Interviews held with prospective pastors Service Sunday was spiritually Men's Day at Sweet Home Baptist Dortholia Ruffin SWEET HOME NEWS Sheriff Harborth were our special guests. Everyone enjoyed everything. We are asking all senior citizens in the Sweet Home area to come to the center. We are open five days a week. Quilting and arts and crafts are among some of the things we do daily.

We have plenty of room for more people to come and join us and do some of the things you like LO do. Bring us some of your good ideas. We have plenty of room for new faces. Sunday, May 16, will be annual Church with the Rev. Aaron Wilkerson of San Antonio as the morning guest speaker and a pastor from Resurrection Baptist Church in Universal City as the evening guest speaker.

He will also bring his congregation. Dinner will be served after the morning service. We are inviting our sister churches to come and share the spiritual day with us and be spiritually fed as well as fed some of our daily bread and all the trimmings that go along with it. The sick and shut-in of the community are doing fine. If you are a senior citizen and of this area, come and join us at our center, we have room for more and you are the one that can help make the number larger.

Pray for the less fortunate ones and we as a community will pray for you. The senior citizens had a beautiful party last Friday at the center. The birthday party for the site manager and her assistant was very good. The food was prepared by our own Marie McIntyre and it was enjoyed by all. Tom Schoolcraft and It.
