of Bulvcrdc. They were married on May 1 in Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hcdwig with the Rev. Bill Zadora officiating. Susan is the daughter of Raymond and Patsy Docge and John is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. John Anz. Matron of honor was Judy Solarc- and Gary Bicscnbach was best man. A reception was held in the Knights of Columbus Hall on Rigsby Avenue. Susan is the niece of Lorcnc Schicvclbcin, Ruby and Milton Docgc who live in the local area.

Get well wishes and our prayers arc with Walter Zillmann who had triple bypass heart surgery on April 27 in San Antonio Regional Heart Hospital. He was doing fine. May we all give thanks for the bountiful rain. Sympathy is extended to the family of Theresa Strcy Kocpp who died May 3 at the age of 89 years. She was bom on July 31, 1903 in La Vcrnia to Emil and Frieda Ulbrichl Strcy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ewald in 1974 and two brothers Edgar and Alex Strcy. Mrs. Kocpp graduated from La Vcrnia School, now the Old Masonic Lodge, and married Ewald in 1924, just a year after he started the Kocpp Chevrolet Dealership in La Vcrnia, where they lived all their lives, until she moved to San Antonio about eight years ago into a nursing home. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ewald Jr. and Jewel Koepp of La Vcrnia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Morris Wosnig of San Antonio and Patricia and Evin King of Bocr- nc; six grandchildren, Dwight and Patricia Kocpp, Hiram Kocpp, Tccui and Doug Bahr, Melissa and Bradford Beck and Angela and Eddie Wiley; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services were held on Thursday in the Finch Chapel and burial was in the La Vcrnia Lutheran Cemetery. Vi'e that Daflene Weidner yaduaie on Sunday, May 16, from Boston Methodist Seminary and will now serve her first church. The Methodist church is located in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Her son W.W. Weidner and her daughter Sharilyn Weidner Kelloy will fly to Boston to be with her on graduation Sunday. Darlene spent her childhood years in the Geronimo community.

Congratlations from us all. This past week we had the opportunity to talk with Ellie Krueger as she attended the Friedens Church Mother-Daughter banquet. She was the guest of her daughter-in-law Nancy Krueger and her sister Evelyn Meyer. Ellie, too, has many tics to the Geronimo community. Funeral services were conducted for Rueben, her husband, on April 14 at the Cross United Church of Christ in Seguin.

The Rev. Ernie Dean, his beloved pastor, conducted the service and his meditation was titled "The Heart of Life is Christ." The Kruegers have been near neighbors to the Cross Church since 1955. Rueben had been a member of the Seguin Volunteer Fire Department since 1948. Rueben enjoyed a try at different careers that included farming, but his leaning towards building developed when for a number of years he put up grain bins for the Martin Stegcr Supply Co. of Seguin.

Rueben traveled all over the state at that time. He was among the carpenter crew that helped build the Friedens Church Parish House in 1942, while the Rueben Krueger family were members of the church. In 1978, together with close friends and family, Opa Krueger built Wayman and Nancy's home. He was also a member of the building crew that put up the Geronimo Volunteer Fire Department Station in 1988. Rueben Waymann Krueger was born to Charles and Alma Dollc Krueger in Aug.

27, 1915 in Guadalupe County. He was Sept. 18, 1916 and confirmed April 13, 1930, both in Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin. On April 12, 1941 Rueben married Ellie Clara Schuenemann. They were blessed with one son, Wayrnan.

Survivors besides Ellie and Wayman are daughter-in-law Nancy and grandchildren Westley and Macgan; brother, Gilbert and wife Lorine; sister, Ida Wmsaucr and husband Albert; sister, Nola Naumann. The burial rites were conducted in Guadalupc Valley Memorial Park by Rev. Dean. Pallbearers were: Raymond Heckman, Marvin Weslmeycr, Billy Belcher, Milton Mattke, Edgar Grimm and Kenneth Fort. After the services, relatives and Iriends were invited by the family to the Friedens Church activity center lor an hour oi hospitality.

Gcrda Martin had 20 family members present; Harold and Shirley Klug, 17 members; Walter Zwickc, 17 members; Vcrnon and Vcrna 10 members. Joe, Jan and Chclscy Stalls came the farthest from Austin. There were 13 attending for the fist time.

Visitors were Steve Jones and Shannon Mauscth. Guessing the number of pieces of candy in the jar for children was Cody Johnson and Jcnna Schnicdcr (they lied). The adults had lp guess the number of animal cookies in a gallon jar. Joe Aldcrcte guessed 519 and there were 520 in the jar. Waller Zwicke and his family will be the host family for the next reunion lo be held on May 1, 1994.

Whether they are young or old, their lives are just as importani as anyone else's. That's why when litile five-year- old Allison Ralcy came lo me with her news, I decided lo write it in our column. Allison said that they had found a small red bird and her cousin Serena Nelson was taking care of it because it couldn't fly.

She was afraid that if they let it loose, the cats would eal it. For Allison's sake, we all hope the litile bird makes it just fine. On Saturday, May 1, Diana Locke celebraied a birthday. Congralulations to firsl grader Travis Salmon, son of Rocky and Darlene Salmon, for winning ihe "most original" decoraied lunch box at the De Zavala's Texas Day Celebration on April 30. His grandparents Charlolle and Lloyd Nobles are very proud of him. Sunday Staples got one inch of rain and pea-sized hail. But ihe rain didn't come unlil late in ihe aflcr- noon. By ihen people had already had their Molher's Day barbecue and were ready lo call il quits.

Interviews held with prospective pastors Service Sunday was spiritually good and ihe allendance was good, especially for Molher's Day when so many visil wilh iheir mothers and other relatives oul of lown. Our guesi speaker was a membership minister from ihe Rev. Kenneth Mclntyrc's church in San Anlonio.

He delivered a spiriiual message. Lalcr Sunday evening, the officers of ihe church mei with one of the ministers lhat some of the members are interested in as a pastor. Next week they will interview anoiher minister lhal is on ihe list. We are praying when evcrylhing is finished lhat we will get a man lhat God will be pleased with. The senior had a beauli- ful party last Friday al the center.

The birthday party for the site manager and her assistanl was very good. The food was prepared by our own Marie Mclniyre and it was enjoyed by all. Tom Schoolcraii and Sheriff Harborth were our special guests. Everyone enjoyed everything. We arc asking all senior citizens in ihe Sweet Home area to come lo the ccnier.

We are open five days a week. Quilling and arts and crafts are among some of ihe things we do daily. We have plenty of room for more people lo come and join us and do some of the ihings you like lo do. Bring us some of your good ideas. We have plcniy of room for new faces.

Sunday, May 16, will be annual Men's Day al Swcel Home Baplist Church wilh ihe Rev. Aaron Wilkerson of San Anlonio as the morning guest speaker and a pastor from Rcsurreciion Baplisl Church in Universal Cily as ihe evening guesl speaker. He will also bring his congregation. Dinner will be served afler the morning service. We are inviling our sislcr churches lo come and share ihe spiritual day with us and be spiritually fed as well as fed some of our daily bread and all the trimmings lhal go along wilh it.

The sick and shul-in of Ihe com- munily are doing fine. If you are a senior cilizen and of ihis area, come and join us al our cenier, we have room for more and you are the one lhat can help make the number larger. Pray for the less fortunate ones and we as a community will pray for you..
