Both contained false, negligent, malicious and libelous statements about Gaburri, the complaint said. "The Search for Michael Rosenblum" was about the 25-year-old man's disappearance and the elder Rosenblum's unsuccessful efforts over the years to find him. Besides Rosenblum, other defendants named in the suit are the monthly magazine and its owner, Metropolitan Pittsburgh Broadcasting Editor Bruce Van Wyngar-den and Jim Harger, the author of the feature article. Gaburri is seeking more than $20,000 in compensatory and punitive damages from each of the defendants. Michael Rosenblum disappeared on Feb.

14, 1980. The same day, Baldwin police found the car he had been driving, abandoned and disabled along River Road in the borough. Police had the car towed, but the owner, a woman the younger Rosenblum had been dating, didn't receive a notice about the car until three months later. Rosenblum has said the delay hindered a Pittsburgh police search for his son, and he since has accused Gaburri and the borough of a cover-up. Although Rosenblum will no longer be a defendant, Wojton said "chances are fair" that he will subpoena Rosenblum as a witness.

Rosenblum said he was. told he would be dropped as a defendant in a certified letter he received from Wojton on Sept. 5. "I have no problems about being called as a witness, because anything I ever said is backed by witnesses and fact," he said. Baldwin Council fired Gaburri in October 1987 for allegedly falsifying documents in the Rosenblum case.

Gaburri appealed to the Baldwin Civil Service Commission and was reinstated in December 1987 with full back He retired last September after 37 years as a policeman, 15 of them as Baldwin's chief. a defendant in the libel suit. The suit stems from two magazine articles about the 1980 disappearance of Rosenblum's son, Michael. "In reviewing the article in its entirety, we decided that he (Maurice Rosenblum) is not a proper party defendant," Wojton said. "His presence would serve no purpose in the litigation." Kelly said Gaburri, who is Mrs.

Hankel's father, was present when the medics arrived. A hospital spokeswoman said Mrs. Hankel was in stable condition yesterday. Baldwin EMS Operations Director Curt Neill would not give details on Mrs. Hankel's condition.

A Baldwin street department worker who also is the son-in-law of former borough Police Chief Aldo Gaburri has been arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. The arrest of Charles Hankel, 36, followed a police search Monday evening of his Boni Drive home, said current Police Chief Chris Kelly. Police found marijuana in the basement, Kelly said. Police said the street value of the marijuana is between $3,000 and $4,000. He said a tip from a source, whose name he would not reveal, had given officers probable cause to believe that drugs were at the home.

Hankel is free on bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday at 1 p.m. before District Justice Leonard Boehm in Baldwin Borough.
