The doors will open at seven o'clock for Bishop Kephart's lecture on "Africa and African Life" in the United Breth ren church this evening. The lecture will begin at eight. Tickets will be on sale at the door.

We have received copies of the Daily Dispatch published at A. K. Read, formerly editor of this paper and later principal of the Tyrone public schools, is one the editorial stall of the Dispatch. Judge Krebs of deal-Held county made an order during the recant license court to the effect that all landlords who refused to give a meal to travelers any time they ask for it after regular hours, would have their license revoked. Judge Furst in granting tion papers to an Englishman at Belle fonte yesterday, stated that hereafter boforegrautingforcigners naturalization papers ho would require them to read the constitutions of Pennsylvania and the United States.

In the United Brethren church this evening, Bishop E. B. Kephart, D. J). will deliver his famous lecture "Africa and African Life." He has traveled all through the dark continent, and the lecture promises to be very interesting.

Admission fee, twenty-live The heating apparatus in the Presby- terimi church is not yet completed and in consequence there will be no religious services in the church until Sunday, notwithstanding the notice published last evening to the contrary. Members of that church are requested to take notice- The ministers of Zanesville, Ohio, bave announced that they will not officiate at fjnerulson Sunday except ia extraordinary cases. There is a general feeling that Sunday funerals should bediacouraged; in mostinstances prove to be merely occasions for a display that is opposed to good taate and religion. The prices for admission to the new academy of music will be 75. and 35 cents for the first night, Feb.

8, when "The Witch" will be presented. The sale of seats will be opened at Fulck's drug store about the middle of next week, and ample notice will be given of the exact time when this advance sale will open. Shyster agents are at work in several sections of the country swindling the gullibles on a World's Fair Detective Agencv scheme. By the payment of $2 the victim is given a brass shield, on receipt of his credentials in red morocco, $3 more to bu forwarded to the managers in Chicago. The victims are promised transportation to Chicago, hotel and street car expenses, and a salary of $U5 per month during the fair.

It is very taking swindle. Friendship a sadly misused word in 'the common talk of the people. It is mostly ushd instead of acquaintanceship, hardly ever in the sense which really belongs to it. It has little opportunity, however, to be spoken of as a quality of esteem and affection subsisting between human beings, for the simple reason that it is so rare. There fore it is not much wonder that a word with which so much happiness is connected is partially misused in lieu of allowing it to fall into desuetude.

The excellent opening attraction for Tyrone's new academy of music, "The Witch," as presented by Mario Hubert Frohman and strong supporting company, is an historical play founded on the Salem witchcraft agitation which marks one of the most important epochs in the history of this country and its settlers. It is a drama of high moral tone and intense interest, and the management of the new play house have been extremely fortunate, even though a heavy expense wat necessarily incurred, In securing "Tue Witch" as the A Plain Statement. Tt is an old saying, but painfully true one, that when a own a atari and J. K. Robley, who came here from Maple ton, were the partners, have conducted their business as wholesale dealers in grain flour, and feed in the mill built for them a (joining F.

D. Beyer Go's planing mills. On Tuesday notice was given by Mr. Robley that the partnership had been dissolved by mutual consent on January 20, and that he had retired from the firm. The senior member of the former firm is now at his boarding house suffering from injuries mysteriously received, and under police surveillance, the result of a forgery which he perpetrated some time ago.

In July last Himes offered his personal note for $1500 to Cashier S. Kloss at the First National Bank, on which he desired to secure the money. Tne note bore the name, as indorser, of W. II, Rex, a wealthy resident of Mapleton, and as the genuineness of the signature was not the cash was promptly paid to Ilimes. Mr.

Ilex's signature forgery. Tho note, on becoming due, was renew, ed by Illmcs, and the forged indorse, men I was repeated. In fact the note and the forgery were renewed two or three times. Last Tuesday Cashier Kloss learned that Mr. Rex had not signed his name to the note at all, and he proceeded at once to take action against the offender.

A warrant was issued M. Ilimes for forgery, and he was searched for on Tuesday night, but could not be found. On Wednesday morning however he appeared at his boarding house, apparently suffering severely. He bad spent the night at his mill, and explained that he had been injured by a fall on the icy pavement on Blair street the night had managed to get to Lhe mill.andhad then found himself unable to go to hia boarding house. He was seriously injured internally, and has since been confined to his room under the physician's care.

Yesterday Hirnes was placed under arrest, and since that time he has been under constant police surveillance. His story of the manner in which he was hurt is not plausible. It is thought that he had foreseen on Tuesday that his sin would find him out and, in his endeavor to escape the law, he probably attempted to board a train on Tuesday night, and was thrown therefrom in some way. This is a more likely explanation of his injury, and is most generally credited. He is improving in condition and his hurt is not so serious aa lit fit at feared.

Sheriff Hughes was in town yester day and Cashier Kloss secured an at tachment for bank against the mill property of the offender. Tho bank thus fully secured against pecuniary loss. Mr.Kloss is always courteous and obliging to his customers and is evei ready to accommodate patrons to tin fullest extent consistent with safi banking; but with evil doers he is jus as unyielding, and once miscreant attempts to secure unlawful advantage of hia institution, that offender is sure to be visited with the fullest penalty fo his act. The forgery is plainly evulen and Himes will receive his punishmen for it. The Orm had apparently been doing paying business since establishing here Mr.

Himes had been the business man aner tind had a good reputation credit in Tyrone. Mr. Robley is a gentleman of integrity who down hill the inclinf seems to be greased for the occasion, the phrase Is a homo ly one, but it describes my rer-rnt experience to nicety. 1 now feel It incum bent upon' me to explain to the people among whom I have made my home and conducted an honest business for nearly two years, just how misfortune has ten the upper hand when every Hl.rngKle in uiy power was mtidf to stem it coming. The sudden death of a beloved sister was a most overwhelming sorrow that met me when I was still in business straits. A lire at Haxlelon caused the loss of se.v eral hundred dollars worth of stock.

A robbery at my home left me loser of large amount of personal possessions. Theft, breaking of glass, combined to sharpen my bed of'thorns. Is it, any wonder that was almost driven crazy But I am determined to get the upper hand of the vigor of youth tnd a strong determination can 'lo it. This explanation of my experience of the past, months is straightforward and is here given the public that they may know that the.ir generous conn- deuce and natronage, in past has not been misplaced nor unappreciated. These animals which formerly were plenty in this country, are now rarely seen, and seldom caught any place else than along the Bald Eagle.
