2d by special invitation, a number st ladles from Forsyth Post, Auxiliary Society, Toledo, were present and gave Inctructions regarding the mannor ol conducting meetings, which proved ol great benefit to this new organi zation. At a called meeting, held Feb. 9th, Iho secretary reported tho receipts of $25 from Wolford Poit, to lo expended for tho relict soldiers families. An executive committee and visiting committee were appointed, and arrangements were made for the holding el an entertainment, for the benefit ot the reltet fund, tho result of which was a social Feb. 22d, which netted $17.07.

A series of entertainments weie held April 5,0 and 7, for the benefit of the Monumental fund, which netted $100 tor that fund, and $21.72 for the Relief fund. Tlio young Indies com poping tho "Broom Brigade," who aided in theao entertainments, were made members nf the Society. At a called meeting, May lltb, arrange mcntH were insole for 11 proper ob-ervence of Memoiml day, In connection with Wolford Post, and citizens generally. An hii-propriale piogramme was arranged, which was properly carried out on May 30th. The Indies of the Society being mixious to do all in their power lo aid in the erection ol a monument in honor of our fallen their regular meeting on the first Friday In June, decided to hold a Strawberry Festival the latter pait of the mouth, tbe proceeds to bu given to the Monumental Fund.

Again were their efforts crowned with success, the net proceeds being $55 37. During the summer months, the means which hud been obtained for the purpose Was expended in relieving the wants ot a number ot soldiers families, and much comfort and aid was rendered them by the committies appointed to visit them. At the regular meeting in November, it was found that winter had set in unusually early and severe, and that there was iliucb aufi'eringin Ibe coinunity in consequence among worthy families not immediately connected wtth the soldiers of the late war. In consideration of (his fact, a new society was formed within and yet entirely independent of the Ladies' Aux. illary Society, to engage in a general work of charity.

It was known as the "Ladies Benevolent With no money in the treasury, all the Society aimed to do, was to clothe the poor children of our town. Committees were at enne appointed to canvass the town thoroughly for contributions ol clothing, nnd the citizens nobly responded. Indeed so graciously and bnunlilully did they respond, that at tills first meeting, nineteen children left the hall with glad and smiling- faces, heartfelt thanks, and a bundle of neatly fitted clothing. A call had been issued lo all the children who were needy to come, but at the liisl meeting, more came thsneouid be supplied with fitted clothing; so these little disappointed ones wete asked lo come again. The pressing need of these children was so urgent that another meeting was appointed lor the same week, nt which ten mora children were lilted with good, com furtabte clothing, and ten more hearts made happy.

Thin tho good work went on, unlit allUie clothing, so kindly supplied, is riiapd of, and all the needy one, wholly or partially clothed. In disponing of some ol this clothing, our visiting committees found, in some of these homes, grim won: nnd destitution, and yet no means to relieve it. In this piessing emergency, us by the hand of God, came a contribution nf $15 from Iho "Mission Ulenuers," of the Presbyterian Sunday ftchool, which wib gratefully and thankfully received. On Christmas night the same Sunday School presented ihe Society witli $0 more, which was followed by a Sunday School collection of S7, a total of $31 from these cheerful civers. immediately were the hungry fed, the freizing supplied with wood, and the barefooted ones fnruislied with strong new shoes.

Could these doners huve seen the tears of gratitude, mid heard the heart-felt thanks, how limply would they have felt repaid. In addition lo this, $2 25 was contributed by the German M. E. Sunday School, for which the Society's sincere thanks were tendered. This amount, together with $3 30 from other kind friends, cimo just as the fimt amount wub expended and a few necessaiies were needed for sick and suffering ones.

Thus has the good work been ncconi-plislied, us with the sanction and blessing of tho Most l'ligli. One after another ol the needy ones have been helped, until nuw, when the wafm, hilglu lays of a spring sun have dispelled the bitter cold id a lung dreary winter, our treasury Is empty mid our work, for the time being, ceuis lo have been accomplished. A a S'Ciety, we first return thanks lo our God, (or so blessing us in times ol dif ficulty, and providing us, through His frnce, with the power ef accomplishing so much with sn little. Our thanks me also due to tho citizens generally fur the mil generosity with which eveiy cull for aid was met!
