Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, is in charge of arrangements. Walter R. Voorhees, at 69, recipient of Boy Scout award lie Ventura Band, and played saxo- phone for Jackie Gleason on many of Gleason's musical albums in the late 1950s and 1960s.

Born in Philadelphia, he resided in Pleasantville for the past six-years. He performed at benefits for area hospitals and boardwalk con-1' certs. He is survived by two sons, Charles Jr. and Anthony a daughter, Rita Lenderman; three -) brothers, Benjamin, Anthony and Ernest; four sisters, Rose Terlingo, Eleanor Ireardi, Carmella Rossi and Dolores Inverso; his Elizabeth Ventura; and 11 grand-? children. The Associated Press was a World War II Marine veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star medal.

He was a member of the greater Consistory of Old Brick Reformed Church, Marlboro Township. He was a life member of Marlboro Fire Company. He was born in Jersey City and lived in Colts Neck Township for the 40 years. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; a son, Bruce, Cincinnati; a daughter, Blythe Jones, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Garrett, Marlboro Township, and John, Cleveland, and two grandchildren. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, is in charge of CHARLES VENTURA.

75. of PLEASANTVILLE, a premier jazz tenor saxophonist during the big band era, died Friday at Greenwood Health Care Center, Pleasantville, after a lengthy illness. Ventura was listed in the 1940s as the best jazz saxophonist by Down Beat, a jazz magazine. He toured nationally with drummer Gene Krupa in 1942 and also toured around the world with numerous bands. For many years during the 1950s, he owned Charlie Ventura's Open House in Collingswood, a venue for many jazz greats including Stan Getz.

He had his own group, the Char- Peternith, Ramsey, and Laura K. Per-rius, Clifton; a brother, Frank Wills, Tampa, three sisters, Edna F. Wills, Philadelphia; Ruth Oppert, Cin-naminson Township, and Pearl Knapp, Ringwood, 111., and six grandchildren. Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton, is in charge of arrangements. KATHARINE E.

OTTENS, 6, of New Egypt, PLUMSTED TOWNSHIP, died Friday at the Cooper Medical Center, Camden, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was born in Lakewood and lived in Apalach-in, N.Y., before moving to New Egypt two years ago. She was a kindergarten student at the New Egypt Elementary School. Surviving are her parents, Margaret and Richard Ottens; two brothers, Richard and Kyle, all at home, and paternal grandparents, Joyce and Richard Ottens, Wayne Township. ANDREW POHLOD 74, of Crestwood Village, Whiting, MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, died yesterday at home. He was employed as a machinist with the Manhattan Rubber Passaic, for 38 years until retiring in 1982. He worked with the Crest-wood communities in the building and maintenance department for three years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting, and a 53-year member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Garfield. Mr.

Pohlod was a member of the Residents Club, the Homeowners Club and was a representative of Crestwood Village V. He was a member of the Whiting Bocce Club and the Czechoslovakian Club, Whiting. He was an Air Force World War II veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9503, Berkeley Township where he served in the Color Guard. He was a former member of the VFW Post in Wallington, J. He was born in Sand Coulee, and lived in Wallington before moving to Whiting in 1978.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; a son, Raymond, Staten Island; a daughter, Regina Sullivan, Selden, N.Y.; a brother, George, Clifton; a sister, Ann Post, Garfield, and three grandchildren. Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiting, is in charge of arrangements. WALTER FL VOORHEES, 69. of COLTS NECK TOWNSHIP, died yesterday at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He had been employed as a customer service supervisor for Remington-Rand, Division of Sperry Rand, Newark, until retiring.

He was a scoutmaster for 33 years and was presented with the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award. Mr. Voorhees was a member of the Associated Regiments of the American Revolution, a member of the Company of Fifers and Drummers, a colonel of the State Troops appointed by the Governor and often played the part of Joshua Huddy. He Surviving are two sons, William Atlantic Highlands, and James R. Rumson; a daughter, Kim Black, West Allenhurst, Ocean Township; three brothers, William Atlantic Highlands; Herman and John both of Highlands, and two grandchildren.

John P. Condon Funeral Home, Leonardo, Middletown Township, is in charge of arrangements. CHARLES R. COPELAND, 57, of Hampstead, N.C., formerly of middletown TOWNSHIP, died Jan. 12, while vacationing in the Bahamas.

He was employed by Mobil Oil for 29 years, retiring in 1986. He also owned Chuck's Mobil Service Center, Route 35, Middletown, for three years, before retiring. Mr. Copeland lived in Middletown before moving to North Carolina. Surviving are his wife, Ernestine; three sons, Charles R.

Ocean Township; Craig Atlantic Highlands, and Eric University of North Carolina, Wilmington, and a sister, Virginia C. Ewan, Woodstown. DENNIS J. DORE, 46, of Vineland, formerly of MANASQUAN, died Friday at home. He was the general manager, of Cumberland Lumber Vineland.

He was a member of the New Jersey Lumberman's Association and the Manasquan Elks Lodge. He was born in Neptune and lived in Manasquan before moving to Vineland two years ago. Surviving are his daughter, Traci Marie, Howell Township; his mother, Rita K. Dore, Freehold Township; two brothers, Garrett Freehold Township, and Robert Howell, and a sister, Marguerite Moriarty, Kentfield, Calif. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, is in charge of arrangements.

JEAN SEMMELMAN DOYLE, 44, of middletown township, died yesterday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was a member of the technical staff with Bellcore, Red Bank, for eight years. She was employed by Bell Laboratories, Holmdel Township, and was a graduate of Springfield College, Springfield, Mass. She was born in Long Branch and lived in Chatham before moving to Middle-town 27 years ago. Surviving are her husband, Thomas; her mother, Ann Semmelman, Fort Pierce, formerly of Red Bank; a sister, Mary Ann Hornberger, Danville, Calif.

Her father, Charles L. Semmelman died in March 1991. Worden-Hoidal Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. MARTHA E. JOHNSON, 75, of SHREWSBURY, died Friday at the Bi-County Hospital, Warren, Mich.

She was a member of the Eatontown Senior Citizens. She attended the Monmouth Church of Christ, Tinton Falls. She was born in Rockwood, and lived in Shrewsbury since 1947. Her husband, Ralph died in 1976. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley McGhee Herbert, Oakhurst, Ocean Township, and Barbara McNeal Decker, Warren, two brothers, Warren McNeal, Florida, and Delbert McNeal, Tennessee; three sisters, Mary McNeal Rungger, Tennessee; Ruth Holloway, and Edith Green, Eatontown, and five grandchildren.

Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, is in charge of arrangements. JOHN J. MURPHY, 68, of neptune CITY, died Thursday at home. He was a truck driver for Shore Point Distributors, Neptune, for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Neptune City United Methodist Church.

He was also a member of Teamsters Union Local 153, Union Township. Mr. Murphy was born in San Francisco and lived the Shore area most of his life. Surviving are his wife, Janet; a son, John Thomas, Jackson Township; a daughter, Joan Elizabeth Murphy Swingle, Ewing Township, and five grandchildren. WILLIAM ROBINSON, 74, of red bank, died Friday at the Grove Health Center, Neptune. He was an Army World War II veteran. He was born in Red Bank and had been a lifelong Red Bank resident. Surviving is a friend, Joseph Williams, Red Bank. Childs Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.

LUDMILA ROMANOFSKY, 69, of tinton falls, died yesterday at home. She was a member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Red Bank. She has been a singer from 1970 to 1985 with various operetta groups in the Los Angeles area. She was born in Turkey and lived in Los Angeles before moving to Tinton Falls six years ago.

Surviving are her husband, Nicholas two sons, Michael Rowson and Alexander Rowson, both Los Angeles, and four grandchildren. John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. LELAND VAUGHN, 70, of neptune, died Friday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was a cook for 30 years for Pat's Diner, Belmar, until retiring eight years ago.

He was born in Neptune and been a lifelong resident of Neptune. Surviving are his daughter, Carol Lee Hendricks, Ocean Township, and a brother, Clark, Wall Township. Francioni, Taylor Lopez Funeral Home, Neptune, is in charge of arrangements. HELEN V. VIZINHO, 67, of long BRANCH, died yesterday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

She was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary 411, West Long Branch. She was born in Pittston, and lived in Linden before moving to Long Branch 45 years ago. Her husband, Jack died in 1970. Surviving are four sons, Gregory Wolf, West Virginia; Gary Wolf and Glenn Wolf, both Long Branch, and Manuel Albert.

He was a Navy veteran with service from 1951 to 1953. He was born in Brooklyn and lived in West Long Branch before mov-. ing to Middletown 14 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Barbara; two sons, Jed Albert, Bayside, N.Y., and 1 Richard, New York; a brother, Myron Albert, Hicksville, N.Y.; two grandchil-' dren and a friend, Gladys Albert. KEVIN J. AMBROSIA, 31, of Voor- hees Township, whose parents live in RED BANK, died yesterday at his par-' ents' home. He had been a marketing representative for Home Patient Care New York, for several years. He had been a pharmacy technician at Riv-erview Medical Center, Red Bank, and was a member of the Borzoi Club, Delaware Valley. He was born in Red Bank and lived in Red Bank until moving to Voorhees five years ago.

JAMES R. BLACK, 61, of highlands, died Thursday at his home. Mr. Black, known as "Bobby," was a co-owner of Connor's Hotel, Highlands. He was a heavy equipment operator and lead engineer with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825, Little Falls, for 30 years.

She was a seamstress for Fredricks Coats, New York, for 40 years until retiring 25 years ago. She was born in Poland and came to America and New York in 1920. KENNETH R. HOUSSELL, 72, of Manahawkin, STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, died Thursday at Community Medical Center, Toms River.

He was a self-employed gunning guide. He was Coast Guard World War II veteran. He was born in Trenton and lived there until moving to Manahawkin 50 years ago. His wife, Eva, died in 1990. Surviving are three grandchildren.

He was born in Passaic and lived there before moving to Toms River over two years ago. His wife, Marie, died in 1983. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hackensack, and was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church, Toms River. She was born in Philadelphia and lived in Hackensack before moving to Toms River 20 years ago. Her husband, Albert died in 1977 and her brother, Alfred Wills, died in 1985.

Surviving are a son, Albert Lincoln, R.I.; two daughters, Nancy K. JOSEPH R. SANDERSON, 83, of LAKEHURST, died Friday in Bayville, Conn. He had been a truck driver for Hemingway Trucking and Paterson Dispatch Trucking Paterson, until retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Mountain View Masonic Lodge 174, Wayne Township, and Salaam Temple, Livingston, Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Wayneand the Harmony Square Club, Toms River.
