Gregg of this County, is interesting the people of Cameron, Monroe County, in the subject of music Judge Kennon is having an additional story placed upon the rear end of his house. There has been seventeen deaths from cholera in the Penitentiary at Co lumbus since the 12ih inst. Charles Shoemaker lost a valuable 3ieifer on Friday; she was overcome iy excessive heat. Eleven deaths have occurred in the Immediate neighborhood of Farming-ion within a month. As this is the cholera season every precaution should be taken to prevent its ravages.

Dhenfectants should be used freely. IL Welday and lady have returned from Jefferson County, whence they had gone on a short visit to their respective parents. The cholera infantum is prevailing in this vicinity to a considerable extent. Parents cannot be too careful in the management of their children. Samuel Wiley was in town yesterday -with some of the choicest Law ton blackberries we have ever 6een.

We tried them and we must pronounce them delicious, ARREST OF AN ALLEGED MURDERER. at of On Saturday officers Junkins and Scott of Wheeling, by request of the Marshal of Bellaire, arrested John Coas, a former resident of Martinsferry, charged with the murder of James Ainmons, in February, 1SC1, in the town of Kirk wood. Officer Owens Bellaire was in waiting, and shortly after the arrest, by the consent of the prisoner, transferred him to Bellaire, and to the County jail on Sunday morning. The j.risoner is a man of apparently stalwart frame, about live feet ten inches high, ruddy complexion, high receding forehead, sandy hair, with closely trimmed sandy mustache, about 35 years of ae. In an interview with him or.

Monday evening, he gave us the following as his statement of the facts connected with the alTair: Was a member of Col. Capehart's 1st W. Va. cavalry, then in camp on Wheeling Island. Had been invited to a party on the evening of the 17th of February, 1801, at Frank Linn's in Kirkwood, and when on his way thither he met two ot his com rades who insisted on going along.

Ar rived at the house of Mr. Linn he ask ed permission of the host for the admis sion of his friends, which was granted, In the course of the evening word was brought him that one of his friends had been beaten severely by some one, and he at once proceeded to the part of the house where the disturbance had oc curred and found that the statement was correct and his partner's head bleeding. Ammons was near by when some words passed between them, and Ammons made threats and used abu sive language; during the melee Coss drew a revolver and shot" Ammons killing him instantly, and then fled joining his regiment on thft island. Coss remained with his regiment and no attempt was made to arrest him. An indictment was found against him at the Summer term of court.

1864. At the expiration of the ar, July, 1S65, Coss returned with his regiment to Wheeling and was mustered out. Shortly afterwards he went to Gallipo- lis, and in company with two other men got on a drunken spree. The prisoner alleges that his partners broke into a shoe store and stole about $o00 worth of goods and secreted them in a room where he had been- placed in a comatose condition. The goods were found in his possession, and he assuming the name of John Mullins, together with his friends, were arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced for seven years in the Ohio Penitentiary.

He was released a few months ago, a year before the expiration of his term. Upon his release he returned to thi. County to see his friends and to secure a local bounty of one hundred dollars due him from Pultney township. Coss expresses himself well satisfied in his position, and is glad to have the matter terminated. Below is an account of the affray from the Intelligencer of February 21st, 1864.

We yesterday received a letter from Frank Linn at whose house James Ammonii was shot and killed by John Coss, on Tuesday night last (Feb. 17, 1SU4), in which an enureiy uinereni version of the affair is given. The statement made by Linn is about as follows: One of Linn's brothers and a brother of his wife (and also of the deceased) had returned home from the arrow and it was decided to give them a dancing party to which a few of their friends and acquaintance were invited. The evening passed off pleasantly until John Coss made his appearance with two soldiers belonging to his Company. As they were not invited, Coss went to Liinn and his wile ana asKeu mere was any objection to nimseii anu friends remaining in the house, to which answer was made that they were welcome as long as they behaved them selves.

The dancing then commenced and nothing unusual occurred until about two o'clock, when Coss said to Ammons, "let's have the next dance." Ammons replied "talk enough. Have you got a Coss answered, "Yes, I have got your sister, not the married one but the other, Eliza." Ammons then threw off his coat it be ng to heavy to dance in and was going quest ot a partner, when coss raised his revolver and shot him. Ammons fell upon the floor and Coss rushed for Uie door, but meeting in the hall saiu "stand back or 1 will shoot you." Liinn turned back and uoss rushed from the house. Linn says that there had been no words between the men during tn3 evening rnd they appeared to be very good mends, NVhen the cry went around that Ammons was killed. all the male members of the party fell upon a soldier who was lying in bed and bruised him pretty badly.

Mrs. Linn finally induced the men to desist and the soldier was permitted to go away. This statement differs very widely from any version of the affair which we have yet heard. Ammons was buried on ednesday. Linn says that Coss gave himself to his regiment on the Island and still re-1 mains there unmolested.

John Durkin, an employee of the Bellaire Blast Furnace, was arrested by officer Owens, on Sunday, on a charge of carrying concealed weapons, and taken before Mayor Criswell. Failing to give bond for $200 for his appearance at Probate Court, he was furnished transportation to the County jail, where he now languishes. $3 With regret we announce the death on Sunday, at Urbana, of the esti mable wife of P. Lowe, the Super intendent of the County Infirmary. Several weeks since Mrs, L.

went on a visit to her Hister in Spriugfield, in the hope of recuperating her failing health Under the treatment of lier physicians she became stronger; about a- week be fore her death she went to her old home at Urbana, where she died. The name of Dr. Henry West of this place, is announced as a candidate for State Senator in this issue. The Dr. is well known in this County as a man of sterling integrity and worth and if nominated and elected will represent the interests of his constituents with ability and fidelity.

The Dr. represented this District in the Senate from 18G5 to 'G7. Joseph McConnaughey, of Bridgeport, was violently attacked on Friday evening last, with the cholera morbus.
