KUNCE Special Correspondent KE3VIAH Clear Creek Country Theatre is not a very handsome showplace, but they almost always come up with some of the best actors and actresses in greater Bay Area community theater. And frequently, but not always, they come up with an outstanding play. "Death By Dumpling" is a fine example of both observations. i The play is written by Woodlands playwright Terese Bland Bueker, a native of Cleveland, Texas, a community nicely I tucked away on Highway 59 in East Texas.

In "Death By Dumpling," Bueker tells of a day in the life of a fictionalized rural family, the Zachrys. The characters are influenced by the author's own family, and she certainly con- the humor and the sorrows of this very real family. I Talented director Rick Peeples produces this taut comedy. And a comedy it is, but one replete with I a tragic death that takes place during a downhome East Texas 5 supper of chicken and you guessed it dumplings. The Colonel is a man of the classics, a collector of people and a man with a niysterious past who suffers his demise far too soon. fimina for with surprises jvhile Ruth's Mindless wanderings are tolerated by the family and she is the butt of jokes by ywing. people in the neighborhood who just love to taunt her. After Emma makes a phone call to Mississippi, the audience learns of the existence of Charles Sharp, a wealthy banker who 'travels to Cleveland to claim the of the father he has not seen for many years. Carl Henderson plays Charles, whose return creates a great turmoil arid a fabulous ending that should not be divulged. The twists and turns of the plot are on hold during flfiost of play, but the second act holds great surprises for the family 'ahd the audience.

The ending is believable, sometimes absolutely hysterical, and at the same time, emotionally draining. play itself was tight, soine' problems in lighting did occur on opening night, but they hopefully will be corrected.
