Born in Elizabeth, Bernice lived in Lake Lackawanna and Jackson before moving to Brick 14 years ago. She was a cafeteria worker for Exxon Linden for 10 years, retiring in 1985. Bernice was predeceased by her two husbands, Louis V.

Grabis, in 1973, and Joseph Giovinco, in 1985; and her son, Louis J. Grabis, in 2008. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Margaret A. Grabis; a brother, Emil Kurtyka and his wife Claudia; two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m.

Born in Jersey City, he lived in Howell before moving to Toms River 12 years ago. He fought for his country during World War II in the US Army. August worked for the Public Works Department of the City of Jersey City for 35 years before retiring. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean, in 2004. He is survived by his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Edmund and Kim Hafner of Plainsboro, James and Cindy Bodino of Howell, and Norman Bodino of Oakland Park, FL; two daughters, Margaret Powell of Howell and Lauren Saxton of Wyckoff; a sister, Nellie Failace of Manahawkin; eleven grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.

Interment will follow at Forest Green Park Cemetery in Marlboro. MATTHEW T. BRAND AGE: 18 POINT PLEASANT Matthew T. Brand, 18, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.

Born and raised in Point Pleasant, Matthew was a senior at Point Pleasant Boro High School, a member of the Key Club and Future Business Leaders of America. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach, and a volunteer for the CCD program. He loved music, computers, cars and boating. He was a cadet with Fire Explorers Fire Co.

Dziepak, 90, of Toms River, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was a chemical operator for 30 years and worked at Tenneco Chemical, Fords before retiring in 1978. Born in Perth Amboy, he lived in Peoria, Ariz. for 30 years before recently moving to Toms River.

He enlisted in the Army 101st Airborne Parachute Infantry 506 and served from 1942-45. He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and the Netherlands. For his bravery, he was awarded the Bronze Star and also received the Purple Heart, both in 1945. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2135, member of the American Legion, and DAV, all in Peoria, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bette A Dziepak; a daughter, Ann Louise Dziepak of Toms River; a son, William V. and his wife Nina; two grandchildren, Teddy and Adele; a greatgranddaughter, Sage, all of Greensburg, four nephews; four nieces; and many great nephews and nieces. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, with funeral services at 6 p.m.

Cristina was greatly loved and will be missed by all. She was predeceased by her parents, Valerio and Pierina Mecchia; and her sister, Gabriella Mecchia. Polo was born in Kearny and was a lifelong resident recently moving to Toms River. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Mozeleski, in 1971; his second wife, Margaret Shepherd, in 2002; and his sister, Ann Torella. Surviving are his son, Charles T. Polo and his wife Suzanne of Toms River; his daughter, Barbara and her husband Michael Pegram of Batavia, Ohio; his brothers and sister, Michael, Frank, John, and Mary Polo; his grandchildren, Michelle, Samantha, Michael and Allison; his greatgrandchildren, Emma, Celia, and Landon; his stepchildren, James and Charles Shepherd and Cathy Niedzinski; and his step grandchildren. Lutterlough, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Cranberry Center, Monroe. She was 98. Mrs. Lutterlough was a lifelong resident of Washington, D.C.

She moved to Monroe to reside with her daughter in 1999. While living in Monroe, she was an active member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Mrs. Lutterlough attended the public schools of Washington, D.C., graduating from Dunbar School, in the class of 1928, near the top of her class. I In January 1960, she was accepted into full membership at People's Congregational Church.

She was an active member of this church in many capacities, most notably as a first soprano in their choir. For 40 years, she was an employee of the Smithsonian Institution; 26 of these years were in the Entomology Department, where she achieved the title of Exemplary Service, upon her retirement in 1983. Her husband, Henry Lutterlough, and Navy veteran, and retired employee of the National Institute of Health, preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy, Ethel, and Josephine; and her brother, Edward. She leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Barbara M.

Hines of Monroe; her granddaughter and her husband Barbara Elaine and Tom Rosensweet and her great-grandchild, Vanessa Claire Rosensweet of Jersey City; her niece, Clarell Ashton; and a grandniece, Doria Ashton of Washington, D.C., also mourn her passing.
