Sugar Ray Leonard and Hector "Macho" Camacho "The two biggest personalities in boxing since Muhammad Ali," according to Camacho fought on top of a pay-per-view card from the Convention Center. The 12-round bout was for the lightly regarded International Boxing Council's middleweight championship, but attracted attention (20-1, 16 KOs). Tua (26-0, 22 KOs), whose career is promoted by Main Events, based in New Jersey, is the World Boxing Council's International heavyweight champion. The Tua-Maskaev bout is to take place at Bally's Park Place and be carried by CBS.

Later in April, George Foreman is to fight unbeaten Lou Savarese. Foreman, whose never lost the title he won with a stunning, lOth-round knockout of Michael Moorer in 1994 in the ring, will fight on the boardwalk for the first time since he lost a Camacho's last big fight, a disputed, but unanimous, 12-round victory over Roberto Duran, took place at the Trump Taj Mahal June 22. Golden Gloves State Tournament director Dan Shannon was a judge for some of the bouts on last night's undercard. Shannon lives in the Iselin section of Wood-bridge Township. WBO middleweight champion Lonnie Bradley (25-0, 19 KOs) fights Otis Grant (28-1, 16 KOs) on the USA network at 9 p.m.

The Golden Gloves State Tournament continues March 14 at Long Branch Middle School, March 21 at the Holiday Inn-Jetport in Elizabeth, March 22 at the Sea Girt Armory, April 5 at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Police Athletic League building, April 11 (novice divisional finals) at Ranway High School and April 12 (open divisional finals) at the Holiday Inn-Jetport. Bouts at the Boardwalk The Thursday night nothing-but-heavyweights professional boxing card from Convention Hall in Asbury Park is to benefit the Boys Girls Club of Monmouth County. The Boys Girls Club, which is to receive half of the proceeds, according to promoters, is selling $100 tickets, which include a ringside seat and an invitation to a post-fight reception. Convention Hall will accommodate 3,500 spectators for the seven-bout card. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the opening bell scheduled to ring at 7:30 p.m. The main event is a 10-rounder between Bobby Harris (18-1, 12 KOs) and Ray Anis (23-3, 17 KOs).

Another bout pits Ike "The Ibeabuchi (14-0, 12 KOs) against Corey Sanders (10-4, 7 KOs). Heavyweights Derrick Banks (11-2, 7 KOs), Derrick Roddy (17-10, 15 KOs) and Roar Petajamaa (12-0, 7 KOs) are also scheduled to lace up the gloves on the Boardwalk. -The card is part of promoter Cedric Kiishner's "Heavyweight Explosion" series. Promoters have scheduled seven shows for Asbury Park's Convention Hall during the following nine months. The next card is being planned for May 8.
