Eleven area fnen were Initiated Into member- Ship of the Loyal Order of Moose, Wood River Lodge 1349, Sunday afternoon during ceremonies at the hall, conducted by the local degree team. The Initiates are James Holloway, Henry Owens, John Lyons and Dr. Stanley Pisarek of Wood River; Niel Lucey, Raymond Blalz- er, Walter Mawdsley, and George Mohundro of East Alton; John Howorth of Cottage Hills; Virgil Bowman of South Roxana, and Edward J. McManus of Alton.

Bowman was class representative. Oils Logan was captain and other members of the degree staff were Jesse Howell, sergeant-at- arms; William Bagent, past ROV- trnor; S. L. Mrs. Beryl Maberry, 332 Church street, East Alton, who has been receptionist at Wood River Township Hospital since it opened, has resigned. Mrs. Flossie Nevius of Roxnna, has accepted the position, assuming her duties today. Mrs.

Maberry, who is to be married to Ira O. Goodnight, 201 Dry street, East Alton, Sunday, was honored with a farewell party and gifts by employes and personnel at the hospital, Friday. Suffers Shoulder Injury WOOD RIVER. Mrs. Minnie Helmkamp is confined to her home in Rosewood Heights because of a shoulder Injury received when she slipped on a carpet.

The dislocation was corrected under anesthetic at Wood River Township Hospital, Friday. Return to School WOOD RIVER. Frank Van Doren and Steve Skundrich have returned to their studies at the University of Illinois. They took their pre-induction examinations in St. Louis, Thursday, and returned to school to await call to military service.

Frank is a sophomore and Steve a junior. Steve attended Noire Dame University for two years. Mehncrt Flanders at Custcr WOOD RIVER. Mr. and Mrs.

Mehncrt Flanders, 443 Prospect street, have received word their son, Mehnert who was inducted into the army Tuesday, is nosv located at Ft. Custer, Mich. Mehnert was in his sophomore year at Bradley Institute, Peoria.when he received his call. After graduation from the East Alton-Wood River Community High School, he was employed at the Laclede Steel Co. and attended Shurtleff College for one year.

Husbands' Night WOOD Husbands will be guests of Junior Woman's Club members at a spaghetli supper at Western Lodge at 6:30 p. m. Tuesday. Mrs. Francis Manning will be in charge of entertainment.

Veeck Addresses Wood River Club Guest Speaker at Rotary Stag Party WOOD RIVER.

It was a field day for sports and sport shirts, Friday night, when Bill Veeck, president of the St. Louis Browns, was guest speaker at a Rotary stag. Veeck spoke and joked for more than two hours of his experiences in baseball. Using his famed extemporaneous and light-vein manner, he talked of rules and signals, the ins and outs of the game, the comic side and the tricks. Among the tricks, he told of leaving the grass unmowed if the home team had a slow-moving infield.

Or, of keeping the ball in a deep freeze for several days so when it was hit, it responded like a rock. All the 45 Rotarians, visiting Rotarians and guests wore sports shirts as a salute to Veeck. An East Alton construction worker became a patient, at Wood River Township Hospital at 5 a.

m. today, for injuries incurred Sunday when he fell from a bulldozer. He is William Moore of 122 Illinois avenue, East. Alton. Moore complained of a pain in his chest.

The mishap occurred while he was working for the O. R. Burton Co. in Hartford. Two children received emergency treatment for injuries and were released from the hospital over the weekend, and two adults were treated for hand injuries.

Frank McGraw, 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elza McGraw, 131 West Fourth street, Roxana, was injured when a truck ran over his foot while he was collecting scrap paper with other Boy Scouts. McGraw sustained a possible fracture of the lower left leg and foot. He was given treatment at 1:15 p.

Saturday. Janice Skundrich, 14 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Skundrich, Rt. 1, East Alton, was treated at 1 p.

Sunday, for burns of both legs and the left foot, received from hot grease. Howard Plager, 245 Alby, Alton, was treated at 6:45 p. Saturday, for injured thumb, incurred while working on the construction of a house. Norman Robins, of Wood River, received a lacerated right hand, Saturday noon, from a piece of tin. He was "treated at 12:10 p.

Crewell have returned to their home at Burbank, after spending 10 days with Mr. Crewell's mother and his sister, Miss Marjorie Crewell, Sixth street. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Swann of Glendale Gardens spent Thursday through Sunday fishing at Kentucky Dam.

Winchester Skeet Team Beats Western Shooters EAST Winchester Arms Co. skeet team defeated Western Cartridge Co. team, Saturday, by 22 targets. It was the third five-man. 1000-bird tournament between the companies, both divisions of Olin Industries, and was held at Western's fields in East Alton.

Total scores were: ments were served and games played at Wil-Mar Acres. Walter Hale was chairman of the event, assisted by Andrew Lessner, Dr. Stanley Pisarek, and Francis Manning. Production Staff Named for Thespian Play at Wood River WOOD two high school students have been named to the production staff for "Seven Sisters," a three-act play to be presented by National Thespians on Nov. 29.

Cast members for the pley were announced last week by Richard Claridge, director of dramatics. The production staff committees follow: Roger Strack will be chairman of the stage committee assisted by Terry Watson, Nancy Schwarm, Welden Milllgan, and Jerry Dee Burman. George Gerl will be chairman of lighting assisted by Jack Gaboon, Maynard Saxby and Don Johnson. Mary Katherlne McManus will head the properties committee assisted by Sandra Justice. Dorothy Barnett, Emma Jean McManus, Jean Means, Norella Cola and Marieta Haycrofl.

Tom Leonard will have charge of sound effects. Evelyn Ford Is chairman of ticket sales assisted by Peggy Lee Santa Cruz, Lee Strain, Ada Dammann, Beverly Raines, Barbara Kelly, Shirley Hudspelh, Rochelle Blair and Esther Holbrook. Patsy Suhling will be chairman of costumes assisted by Pat Mayford, Emma Jean Grable, Arcilia Smith, Doris Rich, Carol Hanks and Viola Asplund. Wood River Club Women to Meet Panel Discussion to Be Featured Tuesday WOOD RIVER A panel discussion entitled "Promoting Public Relations between the Schools and the Community" has been programmed for the "Education" meeting of Wood River Woman's Club at Wood.River School, Tuesday evening.

Participants In the panel will be a second grade 'pupil, Joel Morrison; four high school teachers of East St. Louis; Miss I-eona B. Tet- erler, dean of girls of Alton High School, and Miss Bernice Goedde, East St. Louis, who is vice-president of the Goedde Lumber Co. and a former slate officer of the Business and Professional Women.

Miss Vera Jones, vocal music instructor of the local high school, will present her mixed ensemble in a number of selections. Tuesday's program committee includes Mrs. A. C. Hunt, Miss Effie Maxey and Miss Marjorie Crewell.

Cub Scouts of Den 5 were met at the school Thursday by their leaders and taken to Vaughn's cemetery, where they found markers of those killed in 1he Wood river massacre which took place July 10, 1814.

The party then went to the home of Raymond P. Smith in South Roxana, where they were shown Indian mounds and relics. Smith gave a talk on Indian lore of the area. The cubs and leaders, Mrs. Carnahan and Mrs.

The Rev. E.

E. DeLong, pastor emeritus, delivered the dedicatory sermon, speaking on "The New- Test ament Church." He attributed the vitality of the new testament church to its being a benevolent group and a suffering and persecuted group. His test was, "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." The Rev.
