The mastery of the X's and O's drawn and followed in both pursuits, according to Montanaro, should produce the hard-work ethic that portends success. Red Bank Catholic shifts to a Class North schedule this year after two years in Class South.

Prior to that the Caseys played in Class North. "It'll be a totally new experience for us," Montanaro said. "We'll be playing teams we haven't played in years, or haven't played at all. Koch, a threeyear starter, plays split end and safety. Montanaro, starting his 21st year as head coach at RBC, needs just two wins to reach his 100th career victory. His record now stands at 98-85-5. "The important thing is to be competitive and to win as often as we deserve to," Montanaro said. "Athletic success requires solid performance, perseverance and teamwork. But the important thing is not so much how well those qualities surface now, but how evident they will be 10 years from now in business and family life." Other returning players Montanaro is especially counting on are two-way linemen Peter Montanaro, the coach's nephew, Jim Grant, who has all the skills, and split end Quinton Mitchell.
