Discarded Cigarette Blamed For Blaze in Seaside Park SEASIDE PARK Fire officials believe a discarded cigarette butt started a blaze that damaged a boardwalk candy store last night. Seaside Park Fire Chief John Kleva said the fire damaged a storeroom at Biscayne Candies on the boardwalk at Stockton Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Novelties and candy in the storeroom were damaged and two walls in the store were destroyed, Kleva said.

The store had closed about an hour before the blaze was reported, he said. Kleva said as a result of a investigation, inspectors believe a lighted cigarette butt landed on a dry support beam under the boardwalk and began the fire. "That's one of our biggest headaches," Kleva said of cigarettes discarded on the boardwalk. The Dover Township Bureau of Fire Prevention assisted in the investigation, he said. Michael D.
