Dingee, 37; Accident Victim Dr. Hiram Essex, 85; Retired Physiologist Chill Wills, 76; Character Actor Calif. (AP) Chill Wills, the leathery-faced character actor who appeared In hundreds of Westerns and other films, died at home after returning from a hospital, a spokeswoman said yesterday. He was 76. The cause of death was not immediately known.

J. Fred Buzhardt, 55; Was Nixon Counsel HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) J. Fred Buzhardt, 55, chief Watergate counsel for former President Richard M. Nixon, died yesterday of a heart attack, a hospital official said.

Mr. Buzhardt was stricken at his home In Beaufortand died shortly after being taken to MRS. PETER ANDRE BRICK TOWNSHIP Helen M. Andre 79. of 300 Hulse Ave; died Friday at Point Pleasant Hospital.

Mrs. Andre lived in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island before moving here 20 years ago. She was a volunteer for the Homemak-er's Service, of Ocean County. She was the widow of Peter Andre, who died in 1972. Surviving are a son, Lt.

Col. Peter C. Andre, with the Army in Honolulu; a daughter, Mrs. Charles A. Leimer, Vermont, and three grandchildren.

The Van Hise A Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, is in charge of Sen. Lelio Basso, 74; Italian Politician ROME (AP) Sen. Lelio Basso, founder of the now-defunct Italian Socialist Party for Proletarian Unity (PSIUP), died in Rome's San Camillo Hospital yesterday after a heart attack, family sources said. He was 74. Sen.

Basso had joined the Socialist Party in 1921 and in 1946 became its general secretary. But he broke with the party in 1964 over Its decision to form a center-left coalition with the Christian Democrats. He established the PSIUP, and it polled 4.5 percent of the vote in the 1968 general election. He was elected a senator from Milan in 1972, before his party was dissolved later that year. He won re-election in 1976 on a Communist line, although he never joined the party.

In 1976, he was allowed to visit the United States for the first time after the U.S. government reversed its policy of not granting visas to Communist-leaning Italian politicians. During the visit, he gave a lecture at Harvard University. MRS. DAVID MARSHALL LITTLE SILVER Lilian "Bitsey" F.

Marshall, 53, of 641 Prospect Ave. died Friday at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank. ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) Dr. Hiram Essex, retired head of physiology at Mayo Clinic, died Friday at St.

Marys Hospital in Rochester after a short illness. He was 85. Dr. Essex retired 20 years ago after a 30-year career. He was an internationally known specialist in physiology.

He was president of the American Physiological Society, and a former president of the American Academy of Science in the 1950s and 1960s. He also was one of Minnesota's leading Holstein breeders and in the 1950s served as vice president of the Minnesota Holstein Breeders. Surviving are his wife and three daughters. MRS. ROBERT W.

KEELEY SR. MTDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP Irene M. Keeley, 42, of 192 Harmony Ave. died yesterday at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank. Mrs.

Keeley was born in Brooklyn. She had moved here about three years ago. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband; Robert W.

a son, Robert W. three daughters, the Misses Karen, Margaret, and Tricla Keeley, all at home; a brother, John White, Staten Island, N.Y., and three sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Schneider, Brooklyn, Mrs. Peggy Schrieber, Kingston, N.Y., and Mrs. Dorothy Fogelman, St.

Guerrini, 66 of 9 Aarnof, Old Bridge Estates, died yesterday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Mrs. Guerrini was born in Newark where she lived before moving here nine years ago. She was a former waitress at the Colon-ade Cafeteria, Newark. She retired nine years ago.

Her husband, Oliver Guerrini, died in 1958. Surviving are a son, William, Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Kuebler, with whom she lived; a sister, Miss Mae Kearney, Belleville, and six grandchildren. The Lakewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. MRS.

MATTHEW J. CORCORAN SOUTH TOMS RIVER Catherine F. Corcoran, 77, of 418 Chamberlain St. died yesterday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mrs.

Corcoran was born in New York City and had lived most of her life in Port Chester, N.Y. She moved here 17 years ago. Surviving are her husband, Matthew two sons, John Ocala, and Edward Lacey Township; a daughter, Mrs. Catherine G. Cyphers, also Lacey Township; a brother, Harold Flynn, Peekskill, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs.

Gertrude Farrell, North Salem, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. The Anderson A Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge of arrangements. Additional Obituaries On Page A32 BERKELEY TOWNSHIP The death of Arthur P. Dingee, 37, of 1052 Rte. 9, a former township patrolman, was caused by a descending dumptruck bed that crushed him, police said.

The accident Occurred Friday at Cedar Creek Camp Ground, Route 9, when Mr. Dingee was unloading gravel for foundations at new cabins being constructed, according to police. He owned the campground. Police Sgt. Lester Andersen said Mr.

Dingee was beneath the upraised dumpster, shaking it in an attempt to loosen the load, when the structure descended. Mr. Dingee was a policeman here for about two years before retiring last year to devote more time to his campground business. He was born in Keansburg and had lived here eight years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mystic Brotherhood Lodge 21, and the Ocean County Tourism Advisory Committee.

PETERSBURG, Fla. William P. Hufman, 63, a former resident of Toms River, N.J., died Thursday at the Palm of Pasadena Hospital. Mr. Hufman was a retired railway postal clerk.

He had served in the Army during World War II. He was bom in Camden, N.J., and lived in Toms River, N.J., before moving here 10 years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Mildred White; four sons, Kenneth, Toms River, N.J., Jay, here, William and Robert, both of California; two daughters, Mrs. Gail Scott, Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., and Mrs. Susan Martin, here; a sister, Mrs.

Mary Hoare, Bordentown, N.J., and nine grandchildren. The John S. Rhodes Funeral Home, here, is in charge of arrangements. FRANK TRASKA LAKEWOOD Frank Traska, 70, of 81F Dorchester Drive, a retired brewery employee, died yesterday at Paul Kimball Hospital. Mr.

Traska was a warehouse worker at the former Ballantine brewery in Newark and the former Rheingold brewery, Orange. He had retired several years ago. He was born in Newark and lived most of his life in Irvington before moving here 12 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

Southard, 92, of Lakewood Road died Friday at Bayvtew Convalescent Center, Berkeley Township. Mr. Southard was born In Freehold Township. Surviving are his wife, Irene Applegate; a son, Joseph Bud, Brick Township; a daughter, Mrs. Elberta Short, Tazwell, two sisters, Mrs.

Rachel Brower, Lakewood, and Mrs. Nettie More, Oceanport; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. The G.A. DeBow Brookwood Memorial Home, Jackson Township, is in charge of Ruth Gray, a spokeswoman for the Motion Picture and Television Hospital said Mr. Wills' wife reported the death Friday night.

He had returned from the hospital earlier in the day. Mr. Will's last performance was in a Hallmark Hall of Fame television special taped earlier WILLS this year. It is titled "Stubby Pringle's Christmas" and Is scheduled to air today on NBC. Mr.

Wills, a native of Seagoville, Texas, appeared in more than 300 movies during his 65-year career. He began with Dr. Pryor's Medicine Tent Show at 11 years old, doubling as a performer and "hustler." He went on to perform in vaudeville and nightclubs in addition to his television and movie roles. He was one of the first co-stars signed by actor John Wayne for his epic $12 million Batjac production of "The Alamo." It was made on location at a ranch near Bracketrvllle, Texas, for United Artists. The actor portrayed the character, Beekeeper, one of the Tennessee defenders of the Alamo.

FRED ANDERSON BRICK TOWNSHIP Fred Anderson, 65, of 511 Carroll Fox Road died yesterday at Point Pleasant Hospital. Mr. Anderson was a traffic manager for Otis Elevator, New York. He retired in 1975 after 48 years service. He was born in Union City and had lived 36 years in Dumont before moving here three years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel; a daughter, Mrs. Judith Lockwood, here; a sister, Mrs. Violet Hunter, Penn Yan, N.Y., and three grandchildren. The Colonial Funeral Home, here, is in charge of arrangements. NICHOLAS J.

MORALDO LAKEWOOD Nicholas J. Moraldo, 76 of 15 Gudz Road died Wednesday at Paul Kimball Hospital. Mr. Moraldo was born in New York City and lived there before moving here 11 years ago. He was an operator mechanic at Con Edison New York, prior to retiring 11 years ago.

He was a member of the Edison Retirees Association of South Jersey. He was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. He was born in McCormick, S.C. He was a top aide to Sen. Strom Thurmond, before he was named by Nixon as Watergate counsel in 1973. He later was replaced by James D. St.

Clair. Since 1975. He has practiced law in BUZHARDT Beaufort and in this resort community. He was graduated from West Point, and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Since 1975, he was with a Beaufort-based law firm which also maintained offices in the Hilton Head resort community.

He was president of the Hilton Head Island Bar Association, a member of the board of Baptist College at Charleston and head of the Strom Thurmond Foundation, which Thurmond set up to provide aid to students to attend college. Surviving are his wife, the former Imo-gene Sanders; two sons, Joseph Fred Buzhardt Centerville, and George Sanders Buzhardt, Thomasville, and two daughters, Mrs. Henry W. Brown and Miss Jill Buzhardt, both of Columbia, S.C. Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow in McCormick.

HARRY S. BOYCE LAKEHURST Harry S. Boyce, 71, of 18-D Dove, Cedar Glen West, died yesterday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mr. Boyce retired in 1967 as a comptroller for Armour Jersey City, after 45 years with the company.

He was born in Jersey City and had lived 15 years in Madison Township before moving here 12 years ago. He was a communicant of St. John's Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was a director, treasurer, and past president of Cedar Glen West. He was a member of the Manchester Coordinating Council, Manchester Township, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Manchester Seniors Club.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret M. McGulre; a brother, William Bogota, and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Mahnlj-en, here. The Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. MISS MARY E.

NAUGHTON ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP Mary E. Naughton, 83, of Ivy Hill Drive died Friday at the Holmdel Convalescent Center, Holm-del Township. Miss Naughton was a retired clerk for the American Red Cross, New York City. She was born in New York and had lived there most of her life. She moved here several months ago.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, is in charge of arrangements. Orjwf-W 0 Mrs. Marshall was employed at the Stein-bach store in Red Bank as a sales clerk in the dress department. She was born in Ashville, N.C.

She had lived here 21 years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She was the second vice president of the Garden Club here in 1962, and chairman of the Junior Garden Club in 1969 and 1970. She was the widow of David Marshall, who died in 1970.

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Louise Furber, Wellesley, three sons, David W. and Donald, both at home, and Richard, Brick Township; a daughter, Miss Diane Marshall, at home; a brother, Donald Furber, Sherburne, and four grandchildren. The Adams Memorial Home, Red Bank, is In charge of arrangements. MRS.

HARRY ANTOMDES EATONTOWN Mrs. Elizabeth V. Anto-nides, 93, of 69 Lewis St. died yesterday at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Tinton Falls. Mrs.

Antonldes was born in Holmdel Township and had lived in Red Bank before moving here eight years ago. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea's Roman Catholic Church, and a member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was the widow of Harry Antonides, who died in 1946.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lena C. Aumack, here, and Mrs. Margaret Dugan, Red Bank. The Robert A.

Braun Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements. RAYMOND LUFKIN ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Raymond Lufkin, 79, a former resident of Freehold, N.J., died here Dec. 10 at a local hospital.

Mr. Lufkin was an artist who had designed and illustrated many books, advertising booklets and other published works. He had moved here nine months ago from Freehold, N.J. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators. Surviving are a son, Dudley here, and three grandchildren.
