But Haefner, bound for Towson University next season, relished her role as a defensive stalwart and continued to build her reputation as one of the state's top defenders.

She averaged 1 1 .2 points and 6 rebounds per game, helping to lead the Lancers to the Class North, Shore Conference Tournament and NJSIAA Tournament of Champions titles. Haefner had a season-high 26 points in a Jan. 30 victory over Piscataway and had 21 points on Feb. 13, when the Lancers defeated Cardinal O'Hara at the Just for Feet Shootout at Egg Harbor Township. REGAN APO School: St.

John Vianney Yean Senior Highlights: The ultimate gamer, Apo is driven by the will to win and helped pass that quality on to her younger teammates. Because she is equally adept at ballhandling, passing, shooting, rebounding and defense, Apo, a 5-8 guardforward, has taken on a variety of roles in her four seasons as a Lancer starter, during which they won two NJSIAA Tournament of Champions titles. She was named the MVP of this year's TOC final after her 17-point, eight-rebound, eight-steal performance led the Lancers past Mendham 62-53. Over the season's final 13 games, when the stakes increased, Apo's average was 18.2 points. When Vianney beat Philadelphia's Cardinal O'Hara and East Brunswick on back-to-back nights, she scored a season-best 28 points in both games.

Apo, who moves on to Temple University next season, finished her career with 1,119 points. NINA VECCHIO School: St. John Vianney Year Junior Highlights: At 5-foot-1 Vecchio is almost always the smallest player on the floor, but never lets that stop her from creating turnovers or scoring opportunities for her teammates or herself. In her second season as starting point guard Vecchio drove the lane fearlessly, willingly sacrificed her body to draw charges, connected on a team-high 42 3-pointers and averaged three steals per game. Her season-high total of 1 7 points came in Vianney's Shore Conference Tournament semifinal victory over Toms River East.

In Vianney's South Jersey Parochial A championship victory over Gloucester Catholic, Vecchio registered a team-high 14 points. But her most memorable outing came against Philadelphia Catholic School League champion Cardinal O'Hara at the Just for Feet Shootout. In the fourth quarter and overtime, she scored all 12 of her points, enabling Vianney to overcome an 1 1 -point deficit. KIM MAC MILIAN School: Toms River East Year: Senior Highlights: Finished her high school career with 1 ,537 points, placing her second on the Raiders' all-time list. This season, MacMillan, who has signed to play at Long Island University, averaged 17.9 points per game and was the recipient of the Kerwin Award, given annually to the Shore's top player by the Kerwin family.

MacMillan was East's key source of offense, scoring a season-high 32 points when the Raiders fell to Toms River North in the WOBM Christmas Classic final. MacMillan, who connected on 61 3-pointers this season, had 27 points and five treys when the Raiders defeated Cherry Hill East in the first round of the South Jersey Group IV playoffs. She also scored 15 points against St. John Vianney in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals. MacMillan led the Raiders on a 13-game winning streak that enabled them to tie Toms River North for the Class A South title.

Others in Shore had no answers for the Lancers TARA GIZZI School: Red Bank Catholic Yean Senior Highlights: While Gizzi averaged 12.7 points and seven rebounds per game, it was the intangibles the 5-1 1 forward supplied that helped a Caseys team that included five sophomores and a freshman blossom into one of the Shore's best. Gizzi had 19 points when the Caseys struggled in their first meeting with St. John Vianney and 16 Eoints, when they gave the ancers the ultimate scare in the Shore Conference Tournament final. Her game-high 20 points, which included her only two 3-pointers of the season, led RBC past Toms River North in the SCT semifinals. Gizzi has committed to play at Sacred Heart University next season.

The Lancers were just that dominant. Only one Shore Conference team managed to give Vianney a scare, and a major scare it was. Just 19 days after being embarrassed by the Lancers at Monmouth University, Red Bank Catholic nearly beat Vianney in the Shore Conference Tournament final before losing a 56-52 thriller at Brookdale Community College. The Class South-champion Caseys, who finished the season ranked fourth in the Top 10, are one of several top teams predominately made up of underclassmen. RBC won two of its three games with Rumson-Fair Haven, which finished in the No.

8 spot and beat Toms River North in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals. Toms River East, No. 2 in the final rankings, peaked during the season's stretch run, with a 13-game winning streak that included a victory over Toms River North and two victories over Monsignor Donovan and Toms River South. Donovan, which finished the campaign ranked third, beat Red Bank Catholic twice and also had victories over St. Rose, Toms River North and split its two meetings with Manasquan.

St. Rose beat Red Bank Catholic by 13 points in the regular season, but lost to the Caseys by four points in the Shore Conference Tournament. The Purple Roses' loss to Donovan was by one point. Toms River North won its first 12 games, including back-to-back victories over Toms River East. The No.

6 Mariners defeated Manasquan in the first round of the Shore Conference Tournament. Toms River South laid claim to the No. 7 ranking by defeating Rum-son in the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinals. Rumson was one of four Shore teams to defeat Red Bank Catholic. The Bulldogs defeated Manasquan twice, including a victory in the Central Jersey Group II semifinals.

Manasquan tied Donovan for the Class South crown. The No. 9 Warriors lost to Freehold Township in the Kuhnert Tournament, but beat the Patriots in a late-season game. Freehold Township peaked in the No. 2 spot prior to the start of the SCT, but lost three of its final five games.
