ASBURY PARK EVENING PRESS, SATURDAY, MARCH 27, 1937 13 Phil Dalys Tie Neptune City Again for Firemen's Pin Loop Lead SPORTS Asbury Park Swimmers Bow to Kearny, 41 to 25 Scores Climb In ABC Series Anderson Wins In Two Events Raiders, Big Five Collide In "Rubber" Game Tonight Semi-Pro Court Rivals Clash in Deciding Game of Series at Sunset Avenue Gym McGowan Slated to Play With City Quintet. III 143k til A lilt Bishop Captain Gives Shore Mermen Only Firsts in Meet (Special to The Press) KEARNY Asbury Park high school's swimming squad, handicapped by the virtual loss of two star performers, lost to Kearny high's powerful tank team here last night. The score was 41 to 25. Asbury Park was able to win only two firsts on the seven-event program. Both victories were scored by Capt.

Dave Anderson, brilliant captain, who sped home to victory in the 40 and 100-yard free styles. Anderson took the shorter sprint In 20.5, and the century in 1:02. Asbury Park's Big Five will find itself definitely ''on the spot" at the Asbury Park high school gymnasium tonight. Smashed out of the Scarlet Raider tournament Thursday night in an upset reversal at the hands of the Asbury Owls, the Big Five will have virtually its final chance to capture a share of the seashore's 1937 basketball laurels when Undershcriff Paul Kiernan sends his veteran charges into action against the Scarlet Raiders In the deciding clash of an annual three-game series. The feature tussle will start shortly after a preliminary, slated to get underway at 7:30, is completed.

The opener will pit the Neptune City Tigers against the Keansburg Trojans for the Blue circuit title of the Monmouth County Conference. Johnny McGowan, Asbury Park high school's all-state star, will probably hold down a forward post for the Big Five and the sundy-haired sharpshooter's presence may give the city quintet a psychological edge on the Sunset avenue floor. McGowan has sein three years of scholastic service on the Blue Bishops' court and placed in familiar surroundings, may come thru with a field goal at a crucial stage of the game. Yande If'eghe Lowers 4 World Tank Marks That "crucial stages'' will arise l.i doubted by few followers of the rival semi-pro machines. The Raiders and Big Five have produced one o( the shore area's hottest basketball feuds, and every encounter between the aggregations has fashioned fireworks.

This year, the Ocean Grove passers invaded the home court of the Big Five and scored a 43-41 triumph in a thrilling battle. The second tilt saw the Big Five turn the tables at the Neptune high school gym fort of the Raiders. The score was 47-41. The Asbury Park high school gym was rhoscn as a neutral site for the deciding game but with McGowan. and probably Eddie English, another Bishop regular, in the Big Five's lineup, the city outfit will probably hold an advantage.

The Asbury Park cagers will probably start with McGowan and Francis (Feet) Hendrlckson at the forward sta. (Ions, Eddie Hutchinson at the pivot spot, and Gerald Fisher and Andy DeSarno in the back-court. The Raiders have Indicated that Rav Palala, dangerous set-shot artist, will team up with Bill Behrens at forward, Wes Bradner will take over his usual position at center and that Bart Siciliano and either Leon (Doc) Bruno or Capt, Lou Vltale will play at guard. GRAMMAR SCHOOL CHAMPIONS The Bradley school basketball team of this city, winners of the Monmouth-Ocean league title, is shown here. The theory Is that the brand new al-leys must be "broken In" before any priw-winning scores can be made.

A a result the stronger teams try to have their tournament appearance scheduled as late as possible after the "boosters" have had a chance to re-pa re the boards for good scoring. Five major changes in the standing turned up yesterday in the 17th day of bowling. Only the doubles leader managed to keep their position. 846 616 690 1.852 Freehold Wins Over Oakhurst In Two Games Neptune City Loses One Clash to Spring Lake Heights as Branch-ers Score Sweep. One Week of Play Is Left in Circuit Neptune City and the Phil Dalys only surviving squadrons out of a field of 26 marked time at the top of the Shore Firemen's Bowling league today, and prepared to provide the closest finish in the 11-year history of the veteran seashore pin circuit. Dropping a single game to second-division Spring Lake Heights at a "crucial" stage of the championship skirmish, Neptune City toppled back into a tie for first place with the Phil Dalys last night, as the Long Branch keglers augmented their powerful stretch drive with a 3-0 triumph over Spring Lake 2. The result placed all of the pressure on Neptune City's performers who next week In the loop's final round of regular-season warfare must tackle a dangerous Freehold squad. Freehold stamped Itself a serious threat to Neptune City's hopes last night by upsetting Oakhurst in two games and recapturing possession of third position by 19 percentage points.

Eatontown's dethroned rulers took a parting but futile shot at the championship pennant by blanking Bradley 3, and West End, providing a climax to a sentatlonal belated spurt, virtually clinched sixth place with a sweep victory over Deal 2. Wanamassa Wins Three Wanamassa stepped back Into high-scoring form and whipped Eatontown 2 by 3-0, and Spring Lake 1 routed the Ocean Grove Eagles In three tilts to gain a ninth-place deadlock with Sea Girt 1, victorious over Belmar Goodwill in only two contests. Manasquan and Allenhurst rolled out clean-cut triumphs, handing West Bel-mar and cellar-dwelling Sea Girt 3 shutouts, while the remaining battles saw the Belmar Volunteers capture a pair from Sea Girt 2 and West Long Planch turn the tables on Washington of Ocean Grove, 2-1. Spring Lake Heights, 23rd-place contingent, rose up In the third game to rock Neptune City's championship chances. Neptune City won the opening tussle, 823 to 777, captured the second by 905 to 852, but went down to an unexpected reversal in the third as Spring Lake Heights smashed out an 888 to 831 triumph.

Meanwhile, the Phil Dalys who next week will meet Spring Lake Heights received hardly any opposition in its series with Spring Lake 2. Neptune Lists Golf Schedule KEARNY. (fl) Al Vande Weihe.
