Kathleen M. Pietrunti, to take part in the session for the entire faculty last week. But the Board changed its mind when the BTEA sued to force the Board to allow Mrs. Pietrunti to participate in an earlier orientation session, only for teachers new to the district. Superior Court Judge Edward V.

Martino ruled the Board must allow Mrs. Pietrunti to participate in the first meeting. According to the master contract, it is jointly sponsored by the Board and BTEA, Judge Martino said. Judge Martino also ruled the Board must recognize Mrs. Pietrunti as president until a full hearing, probably to be held later this month.

The Board has not wanted to recognize Mrs. Petrunti after the state education commissioner revoked her tenure, permitting the Board to fire her. The grievance goes before the Board but then may be submitted by either the Board or teachers to binding arbitration. Brune says his Republican opponent was "a little" late in voicing his support for a commuter rail line to North Jersey. Mr. Brune said in a statement that Mayor George J.

Hoffman has been working for months on the commuter problem. "If Mr. Buhr isn't any more timely in getting to the train station than he is in recognizing the need for commuter service here, he'll never be on time to ride one of the trains," Mr. Brune said. Mr.

Brune said he and Mr. Hoffman were in Washington Aug. 17 discussing the problem with Sen. Harrison A. Williams, and obtained his support to get federal funds to start the project.

"Suddenly, on Sept. 11, in the middle of his campaign for office, Mr. Buhr decides that Mr. Hoffman is right and decides to join the bandwagon," Mr. Brune said.

"The train of progress had already left the station when Mr. Buhr arrived," Mr. Brune said. Meanwhile, Mr. Buhr issued a statement saying he supports President Nixon's "work ethic" as opposed to what he calls the "welfare ethic" proposed by Sen.

George McGovern. Mr. Buhr has scored welfare abuses he said is costing taxpayers millions of dollars. Incumbents To Testify On Bridge WASHINGTON Two New Jersey congressmen, Rep. Edwin B.

Forsythe and Rep. John E. Hunt, both Republicans, plan to testify against proposed toll increases on bridges linking New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, Mr. Forsythe, whose district Includes a portion of Ocean County, urged Pennsylvania Gov.

Milton Shapp to speed construction of access roads to a bridge connecting Philadelphia to Pcnnsaukcn. The testimony will come at hearings scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 28 in the federal building, Philadelphia. The Federal Highway Administration ordered the hearings after both congressmen complained any increase would be unfair to commuters.

Mr. Forsythe also complained because New Jersey will complete access roads to the PrruisHiikcn bridge this year. Hut Pennsylvania authorities won't open It until access roads there- are finished, possibly four years awny. mm Judge OK's Settlements Of 2 Suits TOMS RIVER Ocean County Judge Richard A. Grossman has approved settlements totaling $5,000 in two damage suits filed as a result of a two-car accident on Route 9 in Pine Beach.

The settlements give James McGrath, son of Mrs. Ingeborg McGrath, Pcnn Lacey Township, $2,420 for injuries suffered in the collision Aug. 20. 1970. Mrs.

McGrath got $1,080 for medical and legal fees. Peter Silvestri, Brandies South Toms River, who drove the car in which the McGrath youth was driving, accepted $800 for his injuries and his father, Salvatore Silvestri, $700 for medical and legal fees. The four-lane span has been closed since Aug. 31 while engineers try to determine why the span doesn't close properly. Failure of the span to properly settle onto supporting girders has prevented all safety locks from sliding into place. Jack Gartland, a state Department of Transportation spokesman, yesterday denied reports that the motor operating the span bad failed and was being replaced. While the new bridge Is closed, traffic Is being rerouted over the old span several hundred feet to the i II I U'C iuuS I II I I I.
