How wil Lady Bird Johnson spend her time? Here's a look at the eight women who will figure most prominently in the First Lady's plans for the next 17 days.) On the other side of the world, waiting for Lady Bird Johnson, are a queen who sews her own clothes, a First Lady who won a beauty contest, a prime minister's wife who runs a dress shop. Five other women, not a wnit less colorful, are waiting, too. They all will be hostesses to the U.S. First Lady when she arrives with President Lyndon Johnson in six Far Eastern countries on a 17-day, mile journey that may turn out to be her most memorable adventure. She knows some of the wom en from their visits to Washington with their husbands, all heads of state.

Studies Countries She herself has visited the Philippines and Thailand. Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Malaysia will be new to her, although, with her customary thoroughness, she has studied up on countries, peoples, institutions, and statues. wnen Mrs. jonnson arrives in New Zealand on Oct, 19 she will have two hostesses: Lady Laura Fergusson, wife of the Queen's representative, Gov. Gen.

Sir Bernard ergusson, and Norma Holyoake, wife of Prime Minister Keith J. Holyoake. While the American First Lady is staying at the governor general's home, Lady Fergus-son will be her hostess. Mrs. Holyoake is expected to entertain her at a luncheon.

If conversation lags at lunch, the women can always discuss their children (Mrs. Holyoake has three daughters and two farmer sons) or sheep and cattle raising, which was the prime minister's occupation be fore entering politics ana which any Texan knows a 1 1 about. Trip Scheduled Although Mrs. Johnsorf schedule will keep her by the President's side throughout much of the 25-hour New Zea land visit, she is expected to accompany the prime minister's wife on a trip through scenic areas and beautifying projects in Wellington, the cap ital. When the presidential party reaches Australia, the second stop, the i a is to let Mrs.

Johnson see and be seen. Her assistant press secretary, Mar-ta Ross, has been ia Canberra, Australia's national capital, for some days preparing for the visit Mrs. Ross said that the First Lady was also looking forward to seeing Melbourne, where the President spent several weeks during World War II. "Mrs. Johnson is sentimental, and Melbourne's association with the President's war service attracts her," explained Mrs.

Ross, who added: "She won't be having a press conference in Australia. She be-lieves she is best covered by her deeds rather than her words." To Renew Friendship When Lady Bird Johnson greets the prime minister's wife, Mrs. Harold E. Holt, it will be renewing a friendship begun when the Holts visited Washington. Zara Holt is a plump, cay, warmhearted woman who opened her first dress shop in MeiDourne at is ana now con ducts one of Australia's leading tasnion nouses in ner spare time.

Mother of three married sons. she, like Mrs. Johnson, is a de voted companion to her hus band. The Holts travel together, play tennis and water ski to gether. When they aren't discussing how wonderful their husbands are, the two first ladies can compare mutual enthusiasms for interior decorating and landscape gardening.

Undoubtedly the Queen will give Mrs. Johnson a private tour of the Chitralada palace the royal family's official residenceand modestly point out which paintings hanging on its walls were executed by herself or her husband, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Remain in Background Both women were reared in strict, old-fashioned Malay tradition. They try to stay in the background during official functions; when they do converse with foreign visitors its through interpreters. Mrs. Johnson, though, will probably make firm friends of the two women. All three have a great interest in social welfare work and Mrs.

Johnson's schedule for her 24-hour visit to Kuala Lumpur will likely revolve around various charities and institutions including a tuberculosis sanitarium, a children's home and an institution for the blind. Queen Zahara still cooks and sews her own clothes despite her husband's assumption of the throne last April. She is 36, has been married 22 years and has four sons and six daughters. In spite of her retiring nature she has to keep up a busy round of official visits and banquets. She has also taken up one of the King's favorite hobbies, fishing.

"She's not a good fisherman, but a keen one," the King once told a newsman. Rnns Household Puan Sharifah, wife of Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, also cooks, sews on the same sewing machine she had 20 years ago and runs their rambling hilltop residence, although a large staff is at hand. She's 50, 4 foot 10, and has two adopted children. She she says, rather stay home with the children and keep herself "as inconspicuous as possible." When Mrs. Johnson reaches Seoul on the last leg of the trip she'll renew acquaintance with a first lady who is also a doer.

Mrs. Chung Hee Park, 40-year-old wife of South Korea's president, devotes much time to welfare work for working women and the underprivileged. She'll be sure to show these projects to Mrs. Johnson. When she became first lady in late 1963 Mrs.
