Income Tax Questions, Answers The Anatomy of Medicare Part I One of the biggest money words around these days is Medicare. On July 1, 1966, our senior citizens will start receiving the benefits of this new Social Security plan but it's not actually a medical care.

It's more like Hospitalcare at least this first plan is. There are two major plans to Medicare. Plan A will cover the hospital bills. Plan is a voluntary and supplementary insurance plan to help pay doctor bills and that will cost extra about three dollars a month to start. This is very much like the many independent health insurance policies which cover medical expenses.

If you've reached 65 before January 1, 1966, you must sign up for Plan the voluntary supplementary plan to help pay doctor bills before March 31, 1966. Dr. Daniels uses the Diana moon bounce radar at ECOM's Evans area in his work. Results from his experiments have yielded information on the surface roughness of the moon, and new findings on the electron content of the ionosphere. Better understanding of the ionosphere is of great value for improving the reception of radio signals both on the earth and In space.

Belmar, N. J. Stt Our Ad Daily in the Business Directory of The Press Q.

How long has April IS L1S been the filing deadline lor federal income tax re- turns? A. It changed by Congress in 1954. The deadline had been March 15. George L. Btelita period of 60 days.

So, in actual practice, a patient can be admitted to a hospital any number of times for the sairw illness, providing not more than 60 days have el speed between admissions. After 60 day elapsed, a new spell begins and the patient is again eligible for full benefits without regard to any he med in the previous spell of illness. Suppose patient Is ruahed off to a hoepital with a sudden heart attack. He can spend a month recovering let's say 30 days and be released. Another 30 days go by and he suddenly suffers another heart attack which sends him back to the hosprtml a second time.

This second trip is all included in the safe spell of illness since the patient was out of the hospital lees than 60 days. Medicare still provides 90 days of care. Howew, this 90 days la not all free. If what you might call MO deductible for the first 60 days phis $10 each day outer that up to the full 90. Suppose a person under Medicare spends the full 90 days the hospital at ISO a day.

During the first 60 days, the bill would be $3,000 but the patient would only be required to pay 140. After 60 days, the bill would be $10 a day. Thirty days that $300. So for 90 days, a patient would be paying $340 for care that would ordinarily cost $4,500. Additional benefits of Medicare Include all hospital services normally furnished to in-patients and the drugs used in the hospital.

What is not covered are the services of hospital-employed radiologists and pathologists. If blood transfusions are necessary, Medicare does not cover the first three pints of blood. One thing that should concern everyone right now. I believe everyone aware that we must have worked a certala number of years in order to be eligible for Social Security cash payments and Medicare but Just how many may be rather vague. However, what is Important today is that anyone who will be 65 years of age before 1968 can qualify for Medicare without regard to work under Social Security.

Every person born after 1926 must have worked at least 40 quarters in their lifetime. Each quarter Is three months, a quarter of a year. So, a parson who is 38 right now must put In at least a total of 10 years work by the time he or she is 65. The number of quarters necessary decreases far each year a person was born prior to 1926. So, those born before 1903 need not have worked at ail to be eligible.
